dhkonrad's 93 ford ranger

you need some 64s man..

So far I dont have driveline binding or axle hop, just the suspension bind. And it seems to flex good imho, I just don't like seeing the arms bend. Maybe my next axle (assuming no cast wedges) I will just have to bite the bullet and do 3 link :-\

What wall thickness is the tubing on the arms?

I wouldn't be worried about them if they are anything above 1/4" wall. They could bend a lot more before they plastically yield. Plus if the were perfectly rigid you'd be missing out on that flex :icon_thumby:

My driveline hit the tank skid too so I put a bII tank in the rear, fit like a glove and was easy to plumb in.plus it moves a little weight to the back where youhave none

For now I just bent the skid over for room. My trail shaft is also much skinnier than my DD one, so I think it should be fine for now. I do want to do something else with the tank though so I can do a doubler. We'll see how soon that actually gets done though...

tell me about it. All my flex is in the front

1/4.
I'm not so worried about the tubing bending, just that them bending is indicative of the stress other places. Like across the housing. Im thinking it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to weld the housing to the tubes on the axle...

Did a night run night before last. I am loving my truck!
Since it was dark I didn't get too many pictures, but it was a blast. Stupid amount of ice though
This is how most of the hills looked

not just ice, but 5" thick ice. It was hard to walk on the trail, let alove drive on it.
I really only struggled on one section, but it was a long section and probably took .5-1 hour to get through it. I am in desperate need of at least one locker, and I need to take a hundred feet or so of cable off my winch because I kept maxing it out way too easy.

did sustain my first body damage though :'(
not bad, but there nonetheless

also managed to get wood in the bead somehow :dunno:

is that fordyce? i wish i could have went.

Welding up the housing is a good idea. Pre and post heat with 3/16 7018 rod did my housing nicely

Yeah it is. We made it past the first river crossing a ways before we turned around.
Bummer you couldn't make it, but all the more reason to go as soon as we can my next break.

Sounds good!

I don't understand all the fuss over 64s. I have AMPLE amounts of flex with my custom explorer/ranger leaves. IMHO, 64s kill your departure angle.

I agree, my 89 had the Chevy leaves and my 93 still has stock rangers and flex better than the 89 ever did.

Don't talk me out if them! I just picked up a set today!

im pretty stoked on em. the 64's flex great when paired with extended shackles. havent really had any problems with the departure angle.

64's don't affect departure angle, you push the front hanger forward. If anything kills it, its extended shackles, which most people run regardless.

Leafs are for trees, just link it. Lol

I feel like half the people swear by 64"s, and half the people say there is no difference.
I was thinking about trying to arc my original ranger leaves since that are softer than my explorer leaves, or I may just try a pair of 64's...
As you can see my departure angle is already pretty terrible, so low hanging shackles/springs shouldn't pose too much of an issue. Hopefully lol

Also slapped a coat of paint on my rear bumper finally.

I just used some gloss tractor paint I had lying around because I can brush it on and not mask. I have always painted everything in flat, but I kind of like the gloss, I'm not gonna lie. I may have to start repainting black parts on my truck...

That thing is looking nice! I'm doing the opposite of you guys and going to shorter leaves out back, going to swap my 44044 waggy spring into the rear and bob the shit out of the truck, they flexed really well up front so should be good out back.

If you want a better departure angle, take the stock ranger leaf and turn them around. It will give you about 6 more inches to bob.
