First off let us be civil and respect each others opinions about trucks. I can say that I believe that both trucks are good solid little run around trucks. They each have their niche. From my experiances with both trucks the taco is great at things such as four wheeling (stock) and the ranger is a solid work horse and a little bit more cost effective. What are your thoughts folks? That is without bashing other people's. Remember I am asking for a debate not a pissing contest.

truthfully. I would buy either

I have driven both as well. I have enjoyed driving every ranger I have ever been able to get behind the wheel of. However, with the toyotas that's not the case. I have driven two tacos, a v6 auto ex. cab and a 4 cyl. 5 spd. ex. cab, both 1997 models. I felt both a vagueness in the steering which is absent in the ranger, as well as a lack of power compared to comparable ranger engines. To be fair, the toyatas were both equipped with 3:73 rears, but so were the rangers, except for mine which is a 4:10 trac lock (spelling?).The only toyota I ever really thought was a good truck after driving it was a 1988 hilux (called simply "pick up in america.) This truck has a fully boxed frame, something the tacoma lacks, sat up higher, was more narrow, had some really low gears, although i'm not sure of the ratio, had to be at least 4:88. It aslo had many more leaf springs then any of the tacomas. This truck hauled better and fit more places than any tacoma ever could. And because of this I would actually consider owning a pre-tacoma toyota truck. But a tacoma, NEVER!!!!!

except for the seats I liked my Tacoma...... I had the 3.4L V6 and it had absolutely no lack of power......... and I did not experience "Vagueness" in the steering.... I do not, however, like the newer Tacoma because it is a little bigger than a Dakota.

ive driven tacomas and the only thing that doesnt like is the interior, the seats are not as good as ranger seats, and the dash looked very outdated.
one thing i do like about tacoma is the manual transfer, 4x4 option on 4 cil engines
and rear dif locker on TRD package.

the ranger seems more solid to me, and even it was designed some time ago it has a better design to me. mostly the interior.

I'd take a good shape mid-80s open-top Toyota 4Runner 4WD, and SOILD front axle any day compared to a comparable year Ranger.

and I don't give a damn about the interior, it's a truck, not a BMW. It's a abomination to install anything but bench seats in a truck, it's a truck, not a BMW.

I like the interior space of my mom's 07 crewcab tacoma, and the hp the toy 4.0L makes up high but it definately lacks the downlow grunt that the ranger's have. I can pull out from a light with a load like nothings there, it's the hiway speeds I notice the lack of Hp. The tacoma just took it's sweet time until it hit 4k rpm and then took off, 5 speed auto is nice on that thing.

yeah but once u try the split bench seats on a Ranger and then go to a tacoma plain bench, u will notice a difference and i know its no BMW, but for the cash they cost a comfortable seat is a must

ive been in my friends 03 tacoma, it road nice, and i was surprised how everything in the interior seemed to be so similar to the my ranger. even the guage cluster and hvac controls were setup the same way...

Performance wise, im not sure we just drove around town in it, im guessing its not too different. But as far as comparing an 03 ranger to a 03 tacoma, they seem pretty much the same...its all just what u prefer i guess

the ext cab tacomas have better seats
the reg cab bench is what i dislike
i feel like sitting on the floor and the dash looks like the 90's corolla
the 03 tacoma is the best looking for me
i saw a black extcab 4wd mnual t-case and trans with the electric rear lock and power everything i really liked it
also tacomas a re really hot over here( high chances to get stolen)
but its a good truck that i wont deny

but yeah mostly is for what u preffer and what u can afford cuz tacomas are expensive compared to rangers around here too

I prefer the Ranger. I'll grant that both are solid trucks, but I just like the Ranger better. I prefer Ford's interiors to any other manufacturer and I feel they generally build a superior vehicle and will leave it at that.

Does anyone besides me think that the pre-taco toyota trucks were 10x better than any tacoma ever could be.

yeah the ones with the 22R engine and solid axle 4WD
hell even the 20R
