Dans 94, RCSB, 4.0, 4x4, 5spd

Went out in what I expected to be just a simple drive to a place where I could go scout some small ponds on foot to do some longer ranger shooting and maybe drown a worm. Got stuck on the way in and had to winch, then got stuck in the same spot on the way out! If I’d had sent it with some gusto instead of 4lo 1st gear crawling it, I might have bounced through the ruts and onto safety. But instead it framed out immediately and winch was required and worked great. For a 5500# UTV winch I could not be happier.
Collected a bunch of plastic valences, wheel wells, and bumper covers from the same area I got stuck.

Went out to the same place as the week before for more hiking and shooting. Forest service fixed up the mud holes but the nice spread out whoops were still there and I was ripping through them at 45-50mph. Def bottomed out a few times but for the most part it ate it up very well! Also tried out my new storage system for bits and things, one with recovery gear, one with vehicle specific parts and tools, and one with general tools and fluids. The pelican 1620s were a great fit and I got them silly cheap at $40 each off market place.

I think my future goal with this truck might be upgrading to some 8100 smooth bodies on all 4 corners. As well as continuing to shed some weight, I want to really dial in this suspension setup and then pickup another ranger sometime down the road.

The next one will be an Excab and either a 93-94 or possibly a 1st gen. Would do cut and turned 44ttbs, full width 8.8, and then swap all the good bits from this ranger over to it. Oh and bob the bed to make the truck the same overall size as a rcsb, or as close to that as possible. Basically using my current truck as a test dummy and then transfer all the good stuff to this new one with stronger axles and bigger tires.

I see terrain like that... I'm thinking alligators.

Not so sure I like alligators....

Funny everyone including my local friends say that. However, I’ve yet to find one in any of these ponds. This area is located in Ocala national forest which is center of the state and one of the highest and driest points in Florida. Obviously the spring fed creeks stay wet, but with the water clarity being so great alligators aren’t super fond of the creeks. The ponds I’m hiking too are likely to dry up seasonally or shrink drastically which would really hamper a gators ability to eat. Usually I’d say any body of water in Florida has a gator, and maybe I’m wrong, but I never expect to see any out here. Plus 22lr will kill a gator, 556 or 9mm is overkill. Realistically tho even if these places were full of gators they are such docile creatures I would not fear. Diamond back rattlers are a different story tho!

So is heat related illness and I about died on this trip. Still hit my 12mile goal tho! It only cost me 19 16oz bottles of water.

6thish week taking this thing out for mild/wild flogging. Todays abuse was brought on because I finally had someone with me willing to film. I found my favorite section of road that has some tall, smooth, and fairly spread apart whoops and I’ve been hitting them for the last couple weeks so I’ve become foolishly confident. Aired down to 11psi in the rear and 13 up front and basically through my passenger out and backed up a good ways. The below videos are the result and there were many other attempts where my camera guy failed so here’s the top three.

I think the 1st and 3rd are the same video.

Here’s some spicy screen shots of the videos.

Also I got to test this ARB deflator and OMG it’s amazing! 25-12psi in less than 30seconds form start to finish and it’s highly accurate. No more counting 120 Mississippis while pressing the valve stem with a stick.

This year has been the most wheeling I’ve ever done in my life and I’m loving it! 7 weeks straight and not a hiccup from this thing just makes me smile for it being as budget and kinda hacked together as possible. Today was more miles but less overall thrashing, just because I was investigating a new area. Didn’t stop me from needing 4x4 for a few mud holes, and definitely smacking the bump stops a few times.

Did a nice short 5mile ruck, wet a worm a few times, and did some 22lr plinking. Tried an old game my dad would have me do as a kid which is. Put a shall casing on a nail or boop it into a tree and try to shoot the primer out of it. Brought a handful of 54r casings and discovered subsonic lead nose 22lr just smooshes itself against the steel case, leaving the case almost unharmed. Maybe that’s why we always used shotgun shells, either way it was fun.

Well she’s washed off now and scheduled for an inspection Monday! Fingers crossed I don’t find any major damage or things preparing to fail.

54R casings? You a Mosin man? I love mine, even though I rarely shoot it.

I guess I have no good pictures of either my M44 or 91/30 but the 91/30 is mostly unmolested other than cleaned the cosmoline off and refinishing the stock. The m44 has a brass stackers scout mount and a 2-7long eye relief vortex scope. I set it up for hog hunting right before 54 got expensive a few years back and haven’t shot it much since. Luckily I see 54r is coming down in price and looks highly available. I should stock up on some!

Not sure I've seen a vintage .22 bolt gun with a pickle before, probably a fun setup too

Winchester model 67a, the first gun I learned to shoot actually and iirc my dad’s first rifle too. I had the barrel threaded and a section of picatinny added recently because. it’s a very accurate rifle out way past 100yards. The problem is the irons block the entire target that far out and the bullet drop on 22lr especially subs is feet at that distance and there was no elevation adjustment in the irons. This 3x primary arms prism is pretty sweet and since it’s an etched reticle I don’t have to worry about the battery failing on me.

I have the Slx 3x microprism on a 14.5 AR I just built. Pretty nice unit for the price and the raptor reticle is so easy to use. My buddy bags on it non stop but I don’t have eotech money. I just don’t shoot it enough.
Which 3x are you running?

I will have to check I can’t remember but I want to say it’s the SLX because it has the good reticle and multiple brightness settings for NVGs as well which is cool.

I have an Eotech XPS03 and a magnifier and they are great, but $1,100 worth of optics on a $100 gun is stupider than $200 worth of gunsmithing and $200 worth of optics on a $100 gun lol. Plus red dots aren’t as easy to teach people to shoot at varying distances.

You should ask your buddy how many batteries he carries for his eotech. They eat batteries even when stored off mine seems to need a battery yearly which is pretty darn annoying.
