In the middle of a trade for 90 ranger with a 2.9.
The guy says it has a stock locker in the 8.8 and a stock locker in the dana 35 he swapped over... Did those axles ever come with a locker? I can't imagine ford having a locker stock in the dana 35 out of an explorer?

limited slip is what ford calls a locker at that timeframe.

Yeah I know the rear came with the limited slip but never heard of the Dana 35 front end having one stock?

i have pulled a few, no way to know if it was stock. earlier d28 had them in many b2 and ranger i worked on.

Ok, well I guess I can just go check it out. What's the best way to check for a locker? Jack up the axle and spin the tires?

And I think you might be the only one around here who has seen more than 1 or two of 'em... lol You and AllanD.

I remember asking about the d28 LS in the past, lemme go look at what I came up with...

Okay heres what I found for the d28... 84-87, only existed on the snow plow package...So your truck would also have airbags in the front coils.

My understanding is the d35 never had a LS.

Ok, thanks. I would be pretty upset if I drove an hour and a half to find out the guy was trying to play me like a fool. How well does the stock l/s work?

A tightly shimmed 8.8 with the extra clutch mod works very well, as long as you keep the wheels on the ground. Don't know about the 35.

Hm. I just learned something new, too. Replacing those clutch packs must be annoying, and hard to find parts, huh?

Ford never offered a TTB D35 with any kind of traction aiding differential

Allegedly the much later Torsion Bar Ranger FX-Level2 trucks offered a Torsen front diff

The Limited slip used in the Dana28 Diff was a Dana unit that uses Steel-on-steel
friction discs.

Yes, I've seen them, even had several, frankly you are probably better off with
the "lunchbox-locker" of your preference

I've got a Dana44 Limited slip unit in a stock F150 TTB "pig", it's 3.55 geared.

It needs a home if anyone is interested

The re-build kits for the 8.8 lsd are not hard to find and not that expensive. There's a how to do it in the tech section, it's not difficult.

Thanks guys, after talking to the guy a bit more I have decided to pass. He seems to not know his stuff and I feel like hes trying to fool me. Not worth the 3 hour drive to check it out. I might actually buy a Toyota :shok: :badidea:
