so im wondering why the front shaft needs to be shortend is it because the carrier sticks out more or wut?

Yes, the ring and pinion is bigger, thus making the case bigger, thus causing it to stick back from the beam farther... you get the idea.

ya thats wut i figure wut if i used the exploder shaft i got a 2.9 with a fm146 which is apperently the same length as a m5od

the tranny has nothing to do with it, if you had the t-case from the explorer [1354] then you could use the front drive line from the ex and be fine. i just did the swap in to mine and dident have to shorten it do to the 6'' lift, find a shop and have then shorten the drive line for you if you cant do it.

The 1350 and 1354 transfer cases have a different, non interchangeable front output. The 1350 uses a slip yoke which slides into the case. The 1354 has a flange to which the driveshaft attaches too.

Therefore you either need to have your current shaft shortned, or grab a driveshaft and t-case from the doner vehicle.

i have a 1350 that has a yoke that bolts on not a slip on

It must have come from an STX ranger. Those are the only trucks that came with a 1350 and not a slip yoke.

They are rare though.

I had three of them at one time :thefinger: I've still gone an electric shift one left, I think.

The fixed yoke 13-50's also use a smaller joint than the 13-54's, IIRC.

Yup they are. I lucked out and got one when my stock 1350 crapped out last year. Ordered a replacement from the wrecker my freind owns and guess what showed up ?? 1350 with bolt-on double cardon driveshaft and "88 STX" in yellow paint pen!!

im the second owner, the laddy i got it from got it new in 88 all they did was the old lift, it never had the t-case out, it still had the stock cluch in it when i got it.
