Dana 28 rebuild question.

Having a small issue at the end of my Dana 28 axle rebuild. Bearings were changed 6 months ago, so its the same hub bearings. Replaced worn U joints, seals etc. Original shafts. At the end of assembly before the manual hub goes on, I'm unable to get the needle bearing, and thrust washer on past the c-clip groove. Its exactly the same on the other side. Any ideas? No problems up to this point.

I had problems with that on my Dana 35 when I had some mismatched seal parts on the inside of the spindle.

Maybe it's just me, but yours look like it has the thick splined washers like the D35 does. I remember my D28 washers being thinner...

Yep. May disassemble and check-out the seals.

I’ve had to put a pry bar behind the knuckle and pry the axle shaft out to get the axle stub secured with the washers and clip with new everything

Those 2 ideas should git 'er done. Make sure it's the right parts and pull the axle shaft as far out as it will move.

There are 2 different sets of parts to assemble that last little detail. One set uses the needle thrust bearing with some thin washers. The other set is just some thicker splined washers. I think one of them should be plastic to take the place of the thrust bearing.

No plastic on the outside of my D35. There is a plastic and rubber seal on the inside of the spindle depending on which version of the BOM you use. Mine actually just has a larger rubber seal now.

Yes no plastic. Its a metal thrust washer,needle bearing, and toothed washer on the end. The spindle needle bearing with a small seal, and it's metal as well. I bought new old stock.

I'm going to try the prybar method. Thinking the seal isn't seated. I'm taking a break this weekend. My hands hurt. I'm getting old.
