daily doubler build

Thanks Brad but I don't think I have a need for them. I thought the 7* bushings would kick the radius arms up more, guess not.

Here's a quick vid I took after getting the rear done. I had to test the crawl with the 35's. Still pretty slow. I deleted my 2nd cat' to make room for the new RA crossmember as well, I think it sounds a little deeper.

Radius arms ready to be welded

Should I take another pass or call it good? This was welded up on 135 amps

I might have to build a set of these for the BroncoStar. RB

Meh, I'd say it burned in pretty good judging by the undercut seen on the original radius arm piece. Like I said I took 2 more passes on em, no worries now.

Lets see, where did I leave off...

Decided what I'm gonna do for coil buckets/axle position and cut the RA's to length

Then to tie the arms to the crossmember

Tomorrow I can mock up the steering and start building the panhard. My uncle was supposed to get my pitman arm reamed at his work, but he said the guy in the machine shop never got the opportunity to get the tooling setup. I called PartsMike, 159 bucks for a new arm, reamed to spec. I bought a reamer, should be here middle of next week. Unfortunately this means I didn't meet my deadline of being done by Monday.

And for the record, I'm sitting at just over 20" under the joint.

Sucks your not closer as i have a reamer..........

Wow, this is looking terrific. I really hope that you can have this together 1 week from tomorrow so you can make it up to the cliffs.

*Funny side note, you old as dirt buzz box is not as old as my fossilized buzz box.

Yeah I got kinda boned on that deal. I think I went to every shop in central illinois and noone had that size reamer. The automotive machine shops did, but not large enough to ream the larger drag link taper. My uncle said he could get it done, but they laid a bunch of guys off there and the formen are lookin over everyones shoulder, never got a chance to do it. Now I'm stuck waitin for the reamer to get here. Oh well I guess

Thanks, I may still make it but its not looking too promising. We'll see how this next week progresses. If all else fails I'll see if one of the other guys headin up will take the coils for ya.

I don't even know how old that welder is, alls I know is it still fries some good bacon

Check out XKut on Ebay, they have high quality Made In the USA reamers for reasonable prices.

Looks great Bray!

Thanks Brad, the end is near - I can taste it. Well actually I can't, I was chipping off some slag, hit me in the lip, so instinct had me blow/flip it off with my tounge, stuck to my tounge, and burnt the piss out of it. How does that happen lol.

I'm still keepin halfass busy without having my pitman arm reamed. I feel like I'm just kinda spinnin my tires though, without having the exact location of my drag link I can't really make any progress. I did play around a little today though.

Had to remind myself why I'm doing this swap - talk about motivation

The jack was maxed, look at those flex joints work :D

Ok enough fawkin off, back to buildin. Steering is a bit tight using 1.5"x.250 material

Had to grind the poop pipe die to fit the tube

And the real deal

Then I cleaned up and primed the upper and lower buckets I'm going to use - no pics.

Tomorrow I'll make as much of the panhard as I can. Can't make the actual bar until I get the pitman done and know the exact drag link angle.

Here's this evenings progress. My reamer finally came in so I got that taken care of. Here's a pic so you can see how much material is left. More than I had anticipated.

Once I had that done I could finish my steering

Slung some paint and installed the RA crossmember and RA's for the last time (hopefully)

I got the plate drilled that utilizes the steering box bolts and will be the base for my track bar mount. I also mocked up the axle side mount, I think I know what I want to do for it now, gonna be little tricky but I think I can do it. Now that the steering is done tomorrow is "operation track bar".

Here's a pic with a tire, just for kicks
