Has anyone found a better way to hold the PCV valve in tight enough to avoid a air leak? I have had a check engine light come on and I checked the PCV vale and I was able to move it into the valve cover a little, I also turned the gas cap a couple clicks. I thought I saw something on here about a way to hold it in better than the little notches. I was also wondering if the coolant line is really necessary? If not, what is the best way to eliminate it?
This is on a 2004 Ranger with a 4.0 SOHC .

Have you tried a new rubber bushing for the PCV to seat into?

I don't think that model has a rubber grommet. It's got an o-ring seal on the PCV valve.

Feels like a German design... LOL

Yup. That one’s different.

I have one of those Fixd things that gave me the code, it was P0456, I have been trying to figure out what was causing this code for a couple of years now because I would try something and it would be gone for a couple of months. I have changed the gas cap twice and replaced the filler hose, I didn't replace the small hose with the filler because I didn't have the correct size.
Senornoob, that is the PCV valve I'm dealing with, I just recently replaced the valve cover and then the gasket a second time. I replaced the valve cover because I could get the PCV vale to catch on the slots, so I got the new valve cover off of Amazon and I still have a hard time getting it to catch so it tightens up against the back of the valve cover. I just got the notice that it is due for an emissions check, I think it is May. Right now, I have a tie wrap holding in a little but obviously not enough.
