I am collecting the parts for the Duraspark conversion. While debating if I want to go the 2bbl vs 4 bbl carb, I have not been able to locate the 2150 2 bbl car at the auto parts chain stores' online sites. Any suggestions for finding this carb (preferably new, remanufactured, or already rebuilt)? I've looked at NAPA with part number HOL645242 and Advanced.

Also, I've been reading over the Duraspark conversion article in the library and I have a question about the parts list. If I buy the distributor cap listed in the parts list, do I also need to purchase the Distributor Cap Adapter?

Youdon't need to change the carb, jsut make a manual metering block to replace the electrnic one on the rear of the carb. The adapter for the dist is a good idea or you will find the spark is shorting inside the smaller cap.

The spark doesn't jump inside the normal cap until way high rpm are met. The larger cap was needed when the gap was expanded to accomodate a leaner mixture. The more powerful spark needed to jump that gap could on ocasion wander around inside the smaller cap.

I'm not a mechanic, so I do not know how to make a manual metering block.

And, I would still like to know where to locate the 2 bbl carb so I can weigh all of my options.

you can use a 2100 with the 1.08 venturi also there is one on ebay that sounds good and you can try some carb specialty shops like pony carbs they are quite spendy and might still have to come up with a good core tho. I bought a couple of carbs on ebay that turned out to be crap when i got them and got lucky a guy I know had one on his shelf at his shop he gave me and was rebuildable. It would be nice if someone made a machined metering block that bolts right on I am sure there is a liability issue there you just need to be creative with a drill and set of taps. GL

The manual metering block is easy to make with hand tools. I believe someone posted the instructions on how to make it but I don't know where. Worse case sinerio I still have the original drawings on my computer, somewhere.

Thanks for the replies. I found one at Advanced Auto Parts, but the store had to look it up for me as It would not show up online.

Cool you will also need a spacer for the carb felpro # 60529 for around $18 to fix the vacuum leaks you will have on the egr spacer where the TPS sensor was and you need to make sure it has the 1.08 venturi stamped on the side with #50 jets. The spacer is the same thickness as the plastic on it now and you can use the jets out of your carb if the ones that come with it are too big providing it is a autolite/motorcraft.

It's party time! I finally got my engine running after the Duraspark conversion!:icon_cheers:

After much frustration trying to find the problem,it was the wire running from the coil to the firewall plug - it was connected to the wrong wire. I changed wires, and she cranked up effortlessly and purred like a kitten. I couldn't believe how smooth she idled BEFORE the timing or carb were adjusted.

I had been so frustrated with the engine, I quit working on it, and changed out the front brake lines and calipers.

So now I have an engine that runs great, and a vehicle that stops smoothly. I will start on the valve seals this weekend, and replace the leaking valve cover gaskets.:icon_bounceblue:

Got all the Duraspark stuff put in my dads yesturday and put a little gas down the carb and she fired right up. Dont have the fuel hooked up yet due to hes going to be running his electric pumps.

As for the electric choke, will hooking 12v to it make it open when the engine is off or does it have to be running?

just wire it to the old power to the computer or with the power to the coil so it is switched.

Did anyone else have to bend their automatic transmission dip stick tube, so they could have enough clearance for turning the distributor?
