Couple of Duraspark conversion questions

you won't need your computer with duraspark.
i didn't buy any connectors when i did mine.

OK so what about the two pigtails on the duraspark page. Do i need to buy those? IT also says something about a harness in the walk through?

Will i need my computer after the duraspark?

You will get rid of 95% of the computer wires and vacuum hoses the only wires you need on the engine is choke, water temp, oil pressure and alternator. The harness for the duraspark is just three wires to the dizzy and one to the coil and the only vacuum you use is one to the dizzy, pcv and brake booster. All those solenoids and emission stuff is no longer used. Take a day for the wiring and the next for the carb. Do the research and get all the parts together and we can guide you thru it.

Another question. How do i wire up a ignition coil like this one?

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...ntifier=133397_92207_1927_&_requestid=1850996

Firs you need to find out if it runs on battery voltage or if it needs a ballast resistor. I have been running a stock TFI coil and stock plugs and wires direct to battery voltage and the heat range for the plugs depends on the coil. If you need a resistor you may also need a diode because you dont want power going to the start circuit on the module when it is run position.http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/2_8Duraspark.html just find your year for the simple wiring in color with coil that runs on battery voltage the b&w schematic is for late 70s type coil.

Well how do i plug a spark plug wire into the top of it?

It would be like the old plug wires male on one end a female plug on the other the male end that goes onto the coil has the larger size boot maybe you can get that separate at the part store. Ask the guy at the parts counter. Female for the dizzy and male for the coil with the larger boot. If that coil needs a resistor dont run it without it will burn out fairly quick.

That will work It is the TFI style and runs on battery voltage I am just using the stock coil like that believe me you dont want to get bit from the volts produced. They recommend using dielectric grease on on the wire ends and on the rotor where it touches the cap in the center. I have been running the autolite single platinum plugs for 7 yrs now without a hitch the gap is at 44 when you start and when I change the plugs they are around 52 and still no misfires. It makes the wiring real simple but yours is the 85 just use the color wiring diagram for your year any Qs send me a email and I can draw up a wiring diagram that may be easier to follow. kimcrwbr1@aol.com the same if you are going to use a ballast resistor with a diode.

So how would i wire that one up opposed to the pop can style. The pop can style has two post with little nuts on then for wires. The TFI one has a connector, so would i just make my own connector or splice into the connector on the coil?

use the stock connector for the old coil if you have it or get one at the bone yard it is the same for most 80s ranger B-IIs with TFI ignition.

Would u miind writing up a little wiring diafram for using the stock coil? If you could that would be great.

look at the diagram for a pinto or mustang or early
4 cyl ranger. they were all simple and had duraspark.
