I just purchased a 1990 Ranger 4x4 with 2.9 liter V6. I have a coolant leak that is spraying on the engine side of the air conditioning compressor and wetting the hood directly above the ac compressor. Any thoughts on where the leak is most likely coming from. I can't seem to see the leak when idling or reving the engine but after I take a drive I can see it is wet.

Go to Autozone or any auto parts store that has a loan a tool program and get coolant system pressure tester. Pressurize cooling system with it and you should be able to find the leak

Sounds like maybe the fan is spraying it all over. I would stop the fan and let it run (shortly!) to see where the leak is coming from. If it's enough for it to get fanned around, it could be a pretty heavy leak.

Another thing worth doing is running it to temp, shutting it down and just watching under the hood for a leak. After a few minutes of being shut down, the built up pressure will come out of any pinhole leaks.

Thanks for the help.

I tried the loan a tool pressure tester and found the leak quick. It was the heater house by the thermostat (thank goodness) I appreciate the help.
