I have a 98 4.0, with egr, can I swap it out for the metal one? I figure I can find a ranger or explorer with egr with a metal manifold and just take the egr piping. Looks like everything that needs to bolt on, will.

What are the benefits of swapping the metal intake?

You can port it and it won't crack like those plastic ones

Ah. I see.

You're porting and polishing your 4.0? All the ones I've seen are plastic. What models come with metal?

All of them 90-94 were aluminum, cali emissions 93-94 had egr.

Rangers started getting plastic intakes in 93. The Explorer kept the aluminum one through 94.

My 93 has an aluminum intake. I have replaced several of the plastic ones that developed vacuum leaks.

I'm gonna get an aluminum one for sure

I just ordered one from ebay. I'm gonna be installing it in two weeks. My plastic one is leaking between the upper and lower.
I paid $55 with free shipping for a 94 explorer alum intake with a egr.

That's a good deal. I tried looking for the same thing, for giigles. Many have no EGR, or the price comes out to $75 for n EGR mani after shipping & handling.

Ranger plastic started in 95..with the ODB II system.

The plastic is already smoother inside and doesn't not heat soak like the aluminum...going back to aluminum is a downgrade.

My 94 ranger (HWW) has an aluminum, I'll be swapping mine out for the M90 aluminum, so mine will be up for sale shortly after...

Mine separated at the seam on the top of the plenum and it's leaking at the base at 1,4 cylinders.
