i want to try and adjust the Throttle Position Sensor on my truck, and im not quite sure how to do it...the manual doesnt help at all, my truck sorta has a weird idle at times and on like a cold start up after sitting for 8hours to a day or so it will fire up and the rpms will raise to like 2k then it will slowly drop and once its at like 1200rpms it just shuts off, even if i give it gas it will just raise the rpms then shut off still, and its only on that first start up...very weird problem, but i figured id try to get the TPS set right, its only about 6 months old anyways, thanks.

wow wtf i just changed my plugs and the old ones were Autolite Platinum AP 764s and the porcelin is red on like 3 of them and there pretty toasty lookin...the walmart book said they take Autolite Platinum AP 2545 and the difference in those plugs is pretty big...the olds plugs were alot shorter then the ones that are supposed to be in it...i fired it up and it didnt stall though and it seems like it doesnt studder when i barely touch the gas pedal like usual, ill have to take it for a drive some other time, but is this really bad?

the plug all the way to the right is the AP2545 which is supposed to go in it, the others are the plugs i just got out of it AP764s.

ah it still runs weird...shut off twice on me today when i did a cold start, soon as it warms up it wont do it, plus it has a hesitation when u give a really small amount of gas, any1 know how to adjust tps or have any other suggestions? thanks

The TPS generally has elongated holes for the mount bolts.

You probe the signal wire with the key on, engine off.

You should adjust the TPS using its mount bolts so that it reads .96v with the throttle butterfly closed.

The problem a lot of folks run into is someone adjusts the butterfly stop screw so it is either somewhat more than fully closed (making the first press of the pedal sticky) or it is slightly open (done so it will run, usually because the IAC isn't modulating air to keep it idling).

Keep that in mind.

:icon_confused:

what do you mean use the bolts? loosen and tighten them? or is there a set screw or something? please elaborate...

I would check the resistance on the TPS on the full travel.
I would also check the other feed back for resistance of full travel such as egr. Also check egr see if the diaphram has a leak.
what happens in a well used position, the resistance contact gets worn, and give
bad readings to computer in that position,
