Well, I bought a Heep today..... Going to be selling the ranger, and the collection of parts.... But don't think you all can get rid of me that easy, I'm not going anywhere... Just wait till I can get some cash/good deals and you will see a sweet YJ build goin on.

jeeps are great for crawling or tight spaces but you will find yourself missing the old ranger when it comes time for hill climbs and powering up stuff.good luck

good choice :thumby:

lol yeah, I like it, its definitley a step up from the ranger, the ranger was needing more work than I wanted to do (to have it how I wanted it) and this Jeep is a 93, with 80k 1 owner, a little old guy that garage kept it all his life, and all he did with it was haul his grandkids around. Has decent 31x10.50 Dayton Timberlands on it, and a BRAND NEW 9000 lb Superwinch. New soft top. Sound bar package, Fully waterproof seat covers. It also came with chrome nerf bars on it. Only draw back is that it is a 2.5l 5 speed, I like the clutch but I would prefer the 4.0, the previous owner did put a header and custom exhaust with a custom intake and a chip, its pretty peppy for a 4 banger.

Now I am looking for a hard top, spare tire carrier (for some reason this didn't have one), and full doors.

One question for you jeep guys, if I did a SOA front and rear, how would that affect the on road manners, other than the obvious COG issues.

Keep the 4-banger. Wind out the gears an be happy with it, they take well to high rpms. Plus an advantage of the 4-cyl is that it's better balanced than the ones with the 4.0.

SOA on stock springs brings the suck. Jeep springs are softer than BII springs. You'll have mad axle wrap, poor road manners, driveshafts will need extended....

In other words, if you want to do SOA, you should think long and hard about replacing the springs too. I can give you some suggestions on that... but in a PM or on AIM or something... the springs I'd suggest are already hard to come by and I don't want them to become any harder to find, lol, cuz I'm intending on using them on my one build.

Oh, yea, you'll want to swap in an 8.8" rear unless you're lucky enough to have a D-44 out back already. The D-35 rear doesn't take kindly to big tires and SOA.

Any other questions?

wow thanks. yeah I was planning on finding a disc 8.8 for the rear. I have a buddy who said that just extended the shackles works well too, how about that for on road manners, I know its not bad in the rear I have never had anything with a solid axle up front tho.... I am only looking for 2-3" lift for now.

a 2" lift(4"longer) shackle is too much for a yj,it screws up the pinion angle among other things.do a 1" or less shackle and a 1" body.it costs less than a spring lift and will flex and ride nicer.if you remove the track bars it will ride better and flex more too,but if its a little too wandery in the wind, etc put the front one back on.make sure you keep the pitman arm and the track bar in phase(lower them the same amount) if you lift it more.i researched this on pirate for a buddies girlfriend heres the thread its got some good info-

If you go SOA you gotta change the pinon angles anyway, and it's easy to do when you weld the spring perches on.

Samsonite, I should just put you in contact with my buddy... he's done a lot of things to his YJ that horrify other Jeepers, but they work better than the normal solution. I have no idea how much lift he exactly has anymore, and I don't think he does either. It sat higher with the shackle lift and SOA than it does now with the shackles and the new springs. Plus, like I said, stability increased.

Anyway, here's a shot of his YJ, he's runnin 34" LTBs and this is after the new springs.

thanks. Im prob. going to go with a complete 4" kit with everything to drop the d-shafts down. thanks for the info.

IMHO, I wouldn't do that...

YJ's are noted for problems with just lifting using a kit.... AALs don't work for long, they sag out too because they're too thin. Standard YJ lift packs use the thin leafs too, just more of them. I've heard of some YJ guys running lift packs with 12 leafs to them! Then they wonder why they can't flex and they still have the sag problem after awhile.

If you want it lifted, go with my suggestion. I'll get the contact info for you in the next couple days to talk with my buddy. And you woln't have to worry about those springs sagging out!

i said nothing about SOA neither did samsonite.nor is he talking about add a leafs.there are lots of ways to lift a yj i was showing the best cheap way to get 2"s.if you look at that pic those rediculous shackles drag over everything.

thank guys but after a little more research, this is going to be the family hauler, and I think its most likley just going to get treated to the Fabtech 3.5" spring under lift.
