Best engine to replace the 83 Ford Ranger 4-Cyl lima Engine

Im looking to replace the original 83 ford ranger engine (4-Cylinder lima Engine 2.3 liter manual) with a more powerful engine. was wondering whats my best choice out there that would make the swap as least complicated as possible?

I've never done it personally, but there is a 2.5L version of that engine, and it was fitted to Rangers

Quite a bit of change to use a 2.5.No dist.hole,a lot of bolt holes don't line up.I would either rebuild yours and maybe put the 2.5 rotating assembly or you can use up to a 94 engine,you wouldn't have a fuel pump hole(in some of the later engines)but you could use one.I,m pretty sure for a bolt in deal,you can use a engine up to 87

If you have the money, build up your 2.3! They make plenty of performance parts for those 2.3s
