If you are looking to have a rear "Prerunner" style tire carrier in your bed then this might be for you. This might only apply to 83-88.
If anyone is interested let me know. Ill explain it and post pictures of mine.

Why not just explain and show it?
I'm interested in seeing it

I'm interested. Any idea if something similar is possible on a '93?

yep, post them up.

from what I have seen in the junkyard, the tire carrier was unchanged until about 1999 or so.

He might be that 'Spam Man'..........don't trust him!! 3 post and he has no photos?

The only reason I could see the stock spare mount not working is...
1. Strength. I went through 2 different designs when making my bed mounted carrier. The first 2 just rattled apart (of course Im holding a 35 as well).
2. Size. No way a stock carrier is gonna hold anything over a 32" tire.
This was my first design....

No Dice. It sat up way more than what I have now.
No pics of it by itself but its made out of 2x2 doubles and flat plate.

Just some food for thought.

I run mine this way. I had to modify the bed extender by cutting it shorter but it works great and looks great in the bed.

I need to get around to making one. Tired of mine bouncing around the bed all the time.

How do you guys secure them to the bed? Attach right to the frame or just use a plate under the bed floor?

Sent from my iPhone.

Plate under the bed and bolted through the bed on mine. This has held up for around 6 yrs. now with no issues.

Sorry guys I'm new to all this and haven't figured out how to post pictures yet.
I will post the pictures as soon as I figure this out.

Mine has held up through everything iv done with it. And that includes lots of rattling. :D I don't see it holding anything bigger then a 35" tire foreshore. I have my 32" on it now and am putting a 35" on it soon.

This is how I did it. If you haven't figured it out from the pictures already. You take out your spare tire carrier from under the bed and take the metal tube and bend it enough so the existing holes in the tube are flat with the bed of the truck. Then just drill 3 holes where you want it mounted. I was just bored and messing around with trying to figure out where else to put the spare because it kept bouncing off the old one under the bed and snapping the rear brake line. :D
