i'm making a movie from last week's snowdrifting adventure, i'm using windows movie maker, but the problem i'm having is i can't crossfade music... i can do the video, but not music. (windows live movie maker) so i'm trying to use audacity to make the music fade, but i can't seem to do that either! anyone have any ideas how i can make the music fade from one song to the next, and save it as one long file?

all software must be free

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0. I love it. It's old, but if you can find it, PM me.

I can try messing around with Audacity to get the results you're looking for.

right now i'm trying wavasour, it's an alright program... it has a cross fade button, but i can't seem to make it work like i want it... i'll give cool edit pro a try... have you crossfaded before? all i really need to do is be able to a) play 2 songs simultaneously, and b) allow me to determine when they start, in relation to the other song... audacity i'm sure has the ability to do this, but i can't seem to figure out how to make the second track start later...

ok, used cool edit pro, it's done exactly what i want, however, i can't figure out how to save it into a useable file... it keeps saving as

It keeps saving as.....what?

You should be able to save to any file type you like when you go to "Save As...". If you're saving it as a session (.ses), you'll only be able to open/play the file with Cool Edit. You might need to go to "Save Mixdown As...", but you still should be able to choose between .mp3, .wav, and all the other file types.

ok, i've got the trial version, so i can only do 60 seconds in mp3, and one other format, so i'll just save it as wav or wma... i'll give that a try...

and yes sorry, it keeps saving as .sas or what ever it is

save mixdown did the trick, video is processing now, audio works perfectly!
