Any new firearm purchases?

Santa was pretty good at the Gump residence this year. I had put myself on a waiting list for a Chiappa Double Badger in 22 mag over 410... wood stock and forearm with Williams Gun Sight Fire Sites. Then decided that it just made more sense to create myself a man space with a desk and a lockable ammo storage cabinet for Christmas. We'll the wife and kids decided I needed a double badger under the tree.

Any new firearm purchases?

They say it was the only one they could get in time for Christmas... I believe that to be true because I looked. This one has the texture painted wood stock and forearm in 22LR over 410 with a picatinny rail and a Williams Fire Site out front. The ultimate goal for this one is to build some fond memories with my grandson... and gift it to him when the time is right. It's a fine firearm for that.

So for about a minute... I was kinda bummed. Because I had got the email that morning that the gun I wanted was now in stock and to order quick because they sell fast.

But I reflected a bit and it was the best Christmas we've had in awhile. It was filled with many surprises laughs and big smiles... guns... ammo... range bags... ear and eye protection... scope and scope rings. I have a feeling it will also come with some quality time spent together in the future.

God Bless America...

Not a purchase, but...

Decided a month or two ago that I was finally going to get a 9mm PCC, and it would end up being be an SBR regardless of how it started. Intitally I was looking to buy something with a couple of very specific criteria, primarily price and magazine compatibility. Wouldn't go over 1k and and it had to use a Canik TP9 magazine, because I own a bunch of them already. Lots of nice options, but couldn't find one that hit the right marks. Decided to turn to the cheap side and something I'm already familiar with, ARs. AR pased 9mm PCCs can be had fairly readily and cheap. After making that decision it was easy to decide what I wanted. Roller delay, bufferless, side charging, upper with approximately 9" barrel mounted on a standard AR lower with Picitiny stock adapter and folding stock, using exomags in a standard AR magwell. Have most of the lower and can buy the upper, unfortunately it could take 4-5 months for it to be built and shipped. Not willing to wait, so I did the next logical thing... I built one. :icon_twisted:

I still know what I want and intend to get it, but not waiting that long to get into the PCC game. Didn't want to spend the money on buying a nice upper (Aero EPC-9) only to replace it later, and didn't want to buy a cheap one (Bear Creek Arsenal) for it to be have issues and taint me against them. Had a 22 pistol build from several years ago that I didn't use, because it was thrown together from the spare parts bin and never really right (because spare parts). It was already an approved SBR due to the pistol brace rule. Decided I could I can buy the good parts (barrel, bolt, buffer) and convert the 22lr myself for about the price of the cheap upper, and I would have been right. Then I figured that for the price of the nice upper I could upgrade all of it. When/if I get the upper I wanted, I can roll a lot of it into that build and repurpose or sell the rest.

So two weeks ago I started buying parts. Last part arrived this afternoon, so I finished assembly and took for a test fire. Only about 15 round down range, but it fed and cycled flawlessly. That was 5 round each of Fiocchi 115, 124, and 147gr FMJ fed from two different Mean Arms Exomags. Next step is 5to hopefully take it to a range this weekend for proper sight-in if weather is fitting.

FWIW, with the parts replaced and upgraded, I came out at the same price or a little less than getting the better upper. Probably around the $500-550 mark with the upgrades, which included trigger, handguard, compensator, stock, magazines and some other stuff.

The Aero upper would have been $460, I'd still have had to buy the bolt and buffer to run it for another $150ish. At $600+ it still would have been running a milspec trigger and arm brace, and I'd still have needed to replace the handguard and compensator to get the look I wanted (tucked with suppressor).

Consider this round one. I already plan to get a better receiver set when I find one I like on sale. When/if the new ATF rules pass about engraving on Form 1s, I'll register it and swap everything over. (I have a contengency plan if that doesn't happen.) Current set is metal reinforced poylmer, fine for light duty, but want something stronger for long term. New optics will be coming in the near (nearish now that I've seen that parts total) future. A suppressor is on the list for the next big purchase, but that's a few weeks off at least.
