I got an old 149 Cub cadet, 14hp kohler, hydrostat trans, etc etc.

Anyways, an unfourtanate unloading blunder left the front axle busted. Trying to tremove the axle tonite there is a big pin (i believe the call a pivot pin) that sits in the middle of the axle the axle rides on. I CANT GET THE SOB OUT!, ive tried a BFH, WD40, heat, etc etc and it will not move.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like the same pin on my Craftsman riding lawn mower. Only 1x pin that allows the front soild axle to articulate.

Question, is it a bolt or pin?
 
Im sure its a pin. Theres no hex head or threads on it.

I just went outside to check mine. Same style. Its like a rivet head with a nut on the other end. Loosen the nut off and use a hammer to knock it out.
 
There is no nut.

Looks like a kingpin in there.

Dude, I've had a lot of trouble with cubs, what you need is a John Deere. (The real ones, not the ones that they sell at like home depot). But I see your a case guy, oh well.

If you can't get it out then you may try a nail punch and a hammer. Always works.

Also, just something I tought of, the bolt could be bent. Since that one bolt supports the whole front. Too much abuse could have bent it, or maybe the brackets.

I was thinking that too. Looks like a grease point fitting to me. Maybe the pivot pin can only be pushed out one-way. It could be a wedge shape. Also look for a set screw on the axle it self. Theres a groove channel on the pivot pin that may suggest there could be one.

BFH = Big F*cking Hammer, right? :icon_confused:

I did try to hammer i backwards towarsd the engine...maybe i should pound it forward?

Try pounding it forward. The way the diagram looks, that was the way they put it in.

Go to the front of the tractor. Get down and look at the axle. Look at the Cross Member, there should be a Collar weld to the cross member. The axle pivot pin is held in place with a small diameter retainer pin (3/16" x 1-1/4") that goes into the collar and pivot pin. That has to be driven out before the pivot pin can slide out. The retainer pin can be rusted in there and can be a PITA to get out. Remedies include: soaking with a penetrating oil, heat, and/or drilling out.
