Any lawn mower mechanics in the house?

Can you sneak a ball joint tool in there?

If all else fails, drill down the center of the pin, then use a torch to eat the pit out of there. Once you get it thin enough on one side, you can usually collapse the pin and rip it out with vise grips.

Believe it or not--and I know how much you hate my collection of books--but I do have a manual for an old Cub Cadet. I'm going to find it and see if I can scan the page (if any) for you.

I found it and it's simple so I'll just tell you. Your picture there is missing part #10. It's a pin the goes through that hole in part #9. Drive out the little pin first and the big one should come out.

Yeah thats like my buddies craftsmen.

This looks like just a big ass rod pressed into there.

Heres a diagram of mine...

I think you might be confused about what he is having problems with.

Im having problems with part number 1.

Any info on that will?

No I wasn't confused. I mis-spoke. There is a retaining pin that goes in that hole in part #1. The pin is part #10. Get a toothbrush and some WD40 and clean around the part of the axle beam that protrudes and see if you can find the little pin.

10-4.
Thanks will

As for taking it to a machine shop....if you can figure a way of loading a 950-1000lb machine with 3 wheels into the back of a pickup be my guest. :)

Jack up the busted side, jam a board between the frame and the axle on the good side and you know have a semi mobile 3-wheeler. Sit heavy on the good side and you should at least be able to move it around.

Where does the axle pivot pin go to? Probably going to need a parts machine anyway for an axle, if it is like a big tractor it would have a bolster that bolts to the frame (Option 1) I would just replace the whole thing as an assembly (which the parts machine would provide). Or (Option 2) break it down and just take in the smallest possible section that contains your problem parts and the axle to a shop. Or (Option 3) depending on what broke (was it the axle beam or what?) you might even try to weld it, you won't be out anything but time. I have seen axles that have been welded on fullsize tractors... usually loader tractors.

Scanned them...
