Been in here a few times but finialy joined up. I own 2 Rangers a 88 and a 85 that was a stadium race truck wit ha 351C in it on a old Bronco frame with F150 axles.
Worked for Ford designing engines for 17 years some of you with later models have a few parts I designed.

Pics of my Ranger trucks Red Rider and Mini Me.

Howdy and welcome to TRS. Looks like good work on both. Nice job.

Anything specific you remember designing? Please don't say the 4.0 SOHC timing sets though.

Just saw this my computer took a dump and was without one for a few months.
Last thing I designed that went in a ranger was the structural aluminum pan for the 2.5 stroker version of the 2.3. It was a giant leap over the old pan solving oil leak issues whin parked on a grade do to deeping of the sump, wanted to go deeper but wouldnt fit on the assembly line fixtures. Improved the strength reduced the price by 3.50 dollars each. Improved oil starvation issuses under hard braking. Designed a new pick up tube reducing restrictions on the suction side improving oiling by eliminating min bends.

I also began work on a split port head for the 2.3 very similar to the one I DID FOR THE 3.8 PUSHROD v6. It got dumpped when a new manager took over Ford Advance engine design. He was more worried about a V12 for the Aston Martin.
Did a experimental 4 valve turbo 2.3

The 4.0 started as an off shoot of the 3.8 pushrod motor. Didnt have much if anything to do with it. Not to fond of chain driven OHC engines and cost of repairs, gear drives are much better but cost a bunch more to manufacture.

Designed a 5 cly that was susposed to go in Rangers susposed to have a 4, 5 ,6 version. Mazda took over the design for production the 5 and 6 were never produced to my knowlege for production.

Very cool! I bet lots of people would love to have a seen that 2.3.
