I'm currently running 6" BDS coils on my Bronco II. If i were to run xj 8" coils would they compress down to 6" on the truck since 6" coils usually go close to 4" from what i've read

8" coils will likely be too tall. My 6" Skyjacker XJ coils sit at 16.25" under the weight of my BII, which is effectively 5.25" lift.
I'd use the 6" coils with a spacer if needed (you'll need to modify your mounts anyway, so there shouldn't be an issue building a little height into the lower mounts if needed)
From some reports I've seen, SJ & BDS coils are pretty similar.

i should have clarified that I'm running TTB coils and not XJ coils currently, but it seems BDS and Skyjacker coils are pretty close to the same TTB and XJ.
