Hey gang. I have been thinking about a project involving an 87 Jeep Grand Waggoneer, an 88 Ranger XLT, and a 91 Ranger Custom. The Waggoneer had a cat die and decompose in it and it has a.... slightly unpleasant odor that makes the thing undriveable, though it runs great. We haven't been able to get rid of the smell, so I think it may make a great driveline donor vehicle for a Ranger 4X4 coversion. I measured the axles and they are only about 7 inches wider, and the spring perches are way off, but that seems like an easy fix. If I do this swap I am looking at a shortened flatbed/exo-cage so I don't think the extra width will be all that bad. I have to look into suspension though, and deside between doing a full on custom linked set-up, and just buying the Waggoneer 4 inch spring lift kit from BJ's offroad and going that way. The 88 has a 2.9 in it that is pooched, and the 91 has a 4.0 that leaks oil, and power stearing fluid like a screen door. I think the lift springs would be far easier for someone with my lack of skill.

So, at this point I'm thinkng... 91 ranger, with the Jeep T-case and axles, 4 inch lift springs from BJ's, exo-cage/flatbed.... thing.... of death. Some 31-33 inch tires on the stock Jeep wheels. Flame away guys, let me know what you think of my almost plan.

is either ranger a 4x4? because you wont be able to bolt the jeep tcase to the ranger transmission. you could swap the engine, tranny and tcase from the waggy but thats alot of work. i would recommend getting a 4x4 ranger tranny and tcase that will bolt up and then the only thing that you would need to figure out would be the drive shafts.

i think this thread belongs in the Extreme suspensions forum.

No, sadly neither Ranger is 4WD. I was thinking about an adapter for the T-case, or trying to sell/trade the Jeep's motor, trans and T-case, and the ranger's bed, camper, and axle parts for enough to buy a T-case that fits, and maybe the leafs or tube for the cage. I have a nice pile of channel I plan to use for the bumpers, and maybe sliders.

Smelly Jeep? How UNUSUAL ...

You need a "ozone generator", some car dealerships have them for removing odors from A/C ducting, spilled beverages,
baby diapers, smoking stink and so on.
About the size of a toaster oven, put it in the vehicle with everything closed, turn on low speed blower set on recirculation and let run for a hour then check, run for more time if needed.

ozone

No, just the one treatment should do it.
I worked for a BMW dealer when I bought a used Chevy van from one of our secretaries with kids , it stunk of stale french fries, dirty cloths and just OLD oders in general.
Two hours with the O.G. inside and it was freesh as a daisy, never needed another treatment.
