The info I submitted above was from my Haynes manual. I went out and looked at the connections on my 1987 Ranger 2.9 and both cables connect with a push on connector so I can't verify the color codes.

My apologies - don't want you to fry the new altenator.

Their are six wires, are they all needed for the alternator?

3 go to the main(larger) alternator plug and 3 go to the voltage regulator plug the smaller one.

rewiring my alternator

here is the a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzUq2pykmHs&feature=plcp

i think i wired it wrong because the green wire on the solenoid started to smoke so let me know what wires to hook it up right.
and when i put the positive and negative on the battery they throw sparks and i guess its wired wrong

what is that alt off of?

X2. That alternator is not factory. Do you have a diagram of what each post says? I would also recommend using connectors rather than wrapping the wire around the post.

how many times/places are you going to post about your alternator? put the post in the proper forum and im sure if somebody knows something they will be glad to help. no reason to cross post.
