My 88 ranger didn't come with ac. How hard would it be to install the ac in? I looked into adding one under the dash but the units are too big. What would it entail me to do?

Just find a truck that has it with the same engine as yours and rob everything out of it.

Evap housing, dash control panel, compressor wiring, compressor brackets etc.

I would install new compressor, evaporator, condenser, hoses and drier though.

Yup, junkyard, pull everything you can’t buy new. Anything that is connected to the AC system and doesn’t look like your truck. The HVAC box can be gotten from any about 86-88 Ranger or Bronco II, same with the dash controls and stuff. You may be able to get from any first gen Ranger or Bronco II (83-88) for that stuff. The pump bracket and stuff you need from a 2.9 and I think you need some fittings off the pump/hoses if I remember right, new hoses and pumps I’m told don’t come with the fittings

Or find a donor truck.
