A4LD struggles to shift on cold days

okay i have a 91 4x4 with a 4.0 and the a4ld trans. but on cold days it drags first gear out forever then it finally shifts.. but if you let it get warm it doesnt do it. hot days it doesnt do it only on cold days.. what could be the problem
