Hi all-
Just putting the engine back in, and I can't seem to get the torque converter seated, possibly because the input shaft might not be all the way in.

How far should it stick out? mine stick out about 1 inch.
this in on a '93 4.0L 4x4
thanks!

Are you lining up the oil pump properly with the torque converter. Slowly turn the torque converter until flat spots line up with the oil pump gear and slide it all the way in. It can be tricky lineing up the tranny and keep the torque converter fully into the oil pump. One trick is to bolt a box wrenchon one of the lower bell housing holes to hold the converter in tight until you get close, then remove the wrench and line up the flex plate holes. did you check the pilot hole on the crank is the same size as the torque converter stub?

There are two types of pilots 0.825 and a stepped 0.75x0.825 make sure it is seated properly in the oil pump or serious damage can occur when bolting it up. Once you get it installed before you bolt it down the torque converter should sound like a bell when you wiggle it, if not is is not correct. GL

doh! I don't think I was lining up the pump correctly. I'll give that a shot.
everything else is from the truck originally, so I don't think I'll have any size problems.

thanks!

I usually just stuck the TC into the trans and turned it until i got it to seat 3 times, then its all the way down and ready for the truck.
