A very... very... sad turn of events... :/

Just because there is now a claim doesn't mean you're hooped. You still have options. I was involved in a hit and run and I made a claim, thinking that was what I should do simply because it was a hit and run. When they told me they were going to write my truck off for a bent bumper, I told them I no longer wanted them to fix it. They said alrighty then, see ya.

Sucky situation though for sure. If I still lived down in Assiniboia I'd be giving you a hand tearing that thing down right now!

Ya i just got a call from SGI and they explained how it works. Seems like either way im f'ed. lol Either i take it in, they say its a total loss if the damage exceedes the value, and i lose the truck or have to spend alot on repares to get re-safetied. Or i get parts from you and attempt to fix it myself lol.

Wish i could find out how much they are going to give me. I wouldnt be too disapointed if i could get something like 1500 and maybe start fresh. But my truck has 292XXXkms on it and, even tho it runs perfect, will drop the price im guessing.

Any advice? Anyone know where i can look to find out the basic value for my truck?

Go to any SGI broker in town and ask the blue book value of your truck and they'll explain it for you. :icon_thumby:

I believe that with the minimal damage your truck has, you should be able to listen to and refuse their offer (if you don't like it) without your title getting branded. Meaning, you don't have to give the truck to them if they say it's a total loss, and ultimately they have to make the deal right. It sounds like you may be in high school still, so I would take your Dad, or any parent figure with you. Insurance companies are bullies, I've never had been in an accident that was my fault, but I still had to fight them every time. Take in any recent repair receipts, audio equipment receipts, etc. Anything you can do to add value to your truck is going to help your case. I can tell you that I would be contacting my own insurance agent if I felt I was getting the shaft on an accident that wasn't my fault. They are there for you, use them. My last insurance agent (Allstate) told me this himself.

I talked about getting rear ended in my 91 Explorer earlier in your thread. Her company thought they were going to fix my Explorer and that was that. It was on December 31st, so it was cold and icy outside (I don't like driving my Mustang in the snow) so I fought with them for a rental car allowance. They finally agreed to give me a rental after several transferred phone calls. Then they tried to give me a damn Escort when I went in.....but I said I'm out a 4wd, so I want a 4wd. So they gave me an '01 Escape. I only share this story to show you of how they tried to get out of the deal with minimal money.

Also, you can check the sites below for values.

I was told when i was on the phone with a lady from SGI today, that if i were to continue going thru with the apraisal, that once i bring the truck in i cannot take it back out of that. Which means that if they did the apraisal and deemed it not worth fixing, i wouldnt have a choice in wether or not it is salvaged.

So im thinking im going to have to keep the truck and do the work myself. I REALLY didnt want to do this because im loosing money for no reason in particular, but i seem to not have much choice if i want that truck or one like it. I gotta hope i can find someone with the tools to do it (shouldnt be too hard), and someone that has a slight idea at least about how to do this type of stuff (gonna be a little harder) lol.

And it looks like i will have to take you up on yours offer Andres. I REALLY apreciate it. Everything is in decent condition? How well will the parts fit over from an explorer to a ranger (is it the exact same thing or how does ford do that?). Will the fender be horribly off being from an explorer and not a ranger? lol And lastly, all fenders and such from 89-92 are the same right?

dude, take it in, you can negotiate with the insurance company, the amount they give you... honestly, that's probably going to be a write off... don't keep that truck, just to have to fix it out of your pocket...

So far the only sockets I've needed in taking panels off my truck have been 8mm, 5.5mm, 10mm and 11mm

That's a tough spot because usually 9-19mm is 3/8th inch drive and the lower ones are 1/4 inch. But you can probably still find a set with them all for under $75

Hey man, I JUST went through this with SGI. this happened to my truck:

IMG00531-20101129-1925.jpg

it was their fault.

It looks like not much damage eh? SGI quoted 11 000 worth of damage. It was a total loss. I ended up submitting reciepts, and got 7500 for it. Then bought it back, and am in teh process of parting it out.

It sucks, I know all about it. If you have any questions about the process here in Sask, send me a PM, I can tell you what I know.

Daven, go to home depot, and buy a husky took set, they have a lifetime warranty and are nice and cheap! the kit i've got, which is pretty well every socket i need, was like 60$

I've had better luck with my kobalt set (From lowes) than my husky set.

But that's just one man's observation.

I love my truck. I know its not worth a whole lot, but if i got rid of this truck i would want another one same gen anyways. Best thing i can do is take my good running truck and find a decent parts one (from how i see it anyways). One with a half decent bed with minimal rust to swap on to eleminate my gapeing holes in my wheel wells lol. Then i would get the parts i was offered and look for a decent fender (if i did happen to find a good parts truck that would get me this as well).

Not to mention, i think it will be fun if i can actually get some hang of this stuff. Altho... i bet these 20+ years old bolts and stuff wont want to come easily...

And sorry to hear that Nathan, what happened? It couldnt just be front end damage costing over 10 grand... At least you were given an alright amount (from where im sitting anyways lol) for it. After hearing how much my truck is worth to them, it makes me want to buy a new truck for the enevitability that an accsident is bound to happen sometime again and ill be SOL.

And yea, i will definately look into getting some tools. Will a basic cheap set have everything i need by any chance? I think we only really have Canadian Tire here? :P Who knows...

canadian tire has decent tools, cheap, and will exchange tham no questions asked if you break them.

Yes, that was ONLY front end damage. Thats it. Tweaked the front clip ever so slightly. Just make sure your truck doesnt have a total loss title, or will need a safety inspection...they will rake you over the coals in this province trying to get something re-saftied.

Heres another pic, doesnt look like much, but it doesnt take long to add up. Believe me.

DAMN! That looks like nothing... Why the hell was that over 10 grand? :icon_surprised: That... suuuuucks...

So that looks to me like less damage then my truck has... From the pictures you posted at least... Why not just do the same thing im going to try to do?

i'm going to guess that old parts are harder to come by than new... in alberta (i'm in calgary) they CANNOT use aftermarket or used parts on vehicles, they have to get new parts or fix the ones on the vehicle... my truck had bumper, grill, one headlight, one corner, hood, header panel, skidplate, one fender, and a few other miscellaneous parts... it added up to about 10 000 also... labour and paint are a lot also...

Damn... that sucks... Well i guess im definately doign it myself :/

So about these old parts getting removed... wont they be rusted on from the years of dealing with the weather and all that crap? Will i need a special tool for this?
