I did a search and couldn't find anything, but maybe it's hidden somewhere. I'm trying to get some folks together to discuss scanning parts, components, panels, etc. and sharing some solutions to what would otherwise be expensive replacement parts or retrofits.

I recently bought a Revopoint 3D scanner to start scanning dash components and other plastic interior panel components that are disintegrating on my 1988 Ranger (i.e. steering column). I also want to modify my trim pieces to take switches or push start ignition; possibly going full send with a double din head unit by integrating my heating control into the trim 🤔. I even saw that people are making custom grilles which is what got me into this thread of thinking.

Then I realized I suck at Fusion360 😂

Ideas and jokes aside, I'm interested to see if there are issues or solutions that others have already dreamed up or solved with 3d printing that could benefit the community with sharing files (legal beagles from Jim & Co having to decide on that I suppose). I appreciate everyone's time! ❤️🫡

I have nothing to add except that I will be watching this thread until I can contribute.

3d printing can definitely be the answer for aging parts long out of production.

It’s something that interests me a good bit, but there’s not enough of me for everything I already get involved in.

I think interest is important here though. While there isn't enough of you, there could be someone like you! I hope we can get enough interest and engagement that we can get a community together that can help each other out... cause as I said, I'm terrible at the Fusion360. I'm looking forward to getting better at it though! 😄

That's my problem.

I got all interested in the 3D printing thing a few years ago. Bought a basket case printer because I like tinkering with things. Literal basket case, it was an el cheapo Anet A8 in a box if parts for $40. Got it assembled and set about starting upgrades right away. Not much Anet left if I'd put it back together now. Anyway got it together and printing decently enough a few years ago wit the intention of making functional parts for projects. Then figured out that I can't wrap my head around the freely available modeling softwares available out there. I could deal with the professional CAD programs fairly well back in school, but it's like this free stuff is too simplified and I want to be too precise. Probably just that I can't wrap my head around it and got too much other stuff going on to spend the time on learning and tutorials.

I have a buddy with a 3d printer but his life got a bit chaotic so I’ll have to wait till he gets things sorted. I know another guy who has a seriously modified 3d printer and he said he will print stuff if I can get him a workable file but I was always better at drafting over CAD. Built my own websites a few times but never could seem to get the full hang of any free CAD stuff on the computer.

I do a good bit of Cardboard Aided Design in the shop these days though, lol
