A few questions....

Basiclly as long as I use a manual tranny flywheel, clutch and starter for what my engine needs/suppose to have (91 302 so has the 50oz) I can use any tranny that I can find that will bolt to it i.e. a 351w or what ever I can find and doesnt matter the year of the manual tranny?

By Jove, I think he's got it !!:icon_thumby:

If I told you all, Im not 302 expert, was a 350 guy and my truck almost got one but found my current 302 for a price I couldnt beat.

Just thought about it. If I do go with an older tranny that has a manual cable clutch, I can still use that cltuch setup with a 302 that does have the 50oz flywheel right? I would like to have a hydrolic setup and if I can put that on a manual cable type, anyways of doing that and can my current ranger setup work? I will build custom brackets to make it work if I have to. What years did fullsize trannies go to hydrolic clutches? I know that they more or less went to have np208 but thats no biggy, I can put an np205 behind it with little fuss.

I hate to run an auto tranny with this but I do know of an 84 that has an auto and running a np208 that is behind a 302 ( think thats what it has transfercase wise). Anybody know a quick way of checking if it is a c4 or what it has?

The more I keep thinking about it, I dont really need a dual stick setup, right now that is, but want to stay with a manul tranny. My brother in laws old f150 had the exact setup that I am looking for, maybe I can find a truck in my JY with it.

If your truck has a hydro clutch, all you need is a manual trans with a hydro slave and simply connect the line to it. Cable clutch will be a major problem as you'll have to fab a quadrant bracket and locate it on the frame somewhere. Ford went to hydro clutch setups sometime in the 80's in pickups. External slave setups can be bought in kits from the classic Stang vendors, or cobbled together yourself.

My truck originaly had extrnal external slave on it. May just find a manual setup all the way around and use the transfercase it has and think about the twin stick in the future if needed.

My HO Mustang cam came in today!!! Pics and details are in my build thread.

As I have asked in my build thread and thought migfht as well ask here....

Right now I am looking for a new timing set. I have read on other forums that the summit set has alot of slack new so Im going to stay away from them.

Anybody have any suggestions on a good set, but not one that will break the bank (a link would make life great too if you suggest one)?

Also forgot to ask, Im going to be running an oil cooler and wondering do you run the cooler before the oil filter or after it?

Timing set ? Go to your local O'Reilly Auto Parts and ask for the O.E. roller set for an 86-95 HO Mustang. They run about $20-30. I've got one in my 331, it's been doing the job now for 5 years.

Sounds good. May run it after the filter so that the oil through the filter will be hotter and pass through it easier.

you generally want to run the cooler after the filter to keep junk from plugging up the cooler. Also not a bad idea to blow the cooler out before use just incase there is junk in there from it being made/shipped.

Got a timing set for $11.55 from my parts store and it also has the feature of advancing/retarding the cam by 4 degrees. It has the paper that says what it does but other then the risk of smacking a valve with the piston, what advantage will this have if I were to advance or retard the camshaft if any at all on my engine?
