My 1999 xl standard cab has factory am/fm radio with speakers in the door. My radio does not have a fade from front to rear feature...nor a left/right balance.

I desire to replace with a factory am/fm cassette deck.

Behind my seats are speaker grills, but no speakers.

Any advise will be helpful.
Are there wires in the rear speaker housing to connect rear speakers?
Will a factory am/fm cassette connect with my wiring harness?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TRS!!!!!

Bought new or used?

Most likely was a special order fleet truck. Probably does not have the wires in the rear speaker locations but then again it might.

Best thing to do is check out Crutchfield.

The site can help with what fits your truck and gives you a lot of free stuff if you buy from them, also unlimited lifetime tech support.

I have been a loyal customer for over 30 years.

I second the motion for Crutchfield. I have a co-worker who has used them heavily over the years. He says they often include installation stuff like wiring adapters, brackets, etc. for free when you buy a stereo from them.

Pop the speaker grills off and see if the wires are there. There's a good chance that they are tucked in there as part of standard truck wiring. Even if they aren't, it's a small, standard cab truck - won't take much wire. I would recommend running both conductors to each speaker. Don't use the truck body as a ground (return path).
