99 Ranger Tranny Tech Question

Hello All,
I am serviceing my Trans(155k,It was flushed at 90k and i am missing paperwork between then and now, But judgeing by the T-Case fluid it is time!!!) Is there a definate way to tell if i have a drain plug in my torque converter, Before i go much further? I have starter and most of the Front inspection cover(flexplate cover if you will) off, Pain to be sure, Needed to be cleaned anyway, Now i am wondering if someone can tell me for sure if this trans has a T/Conv with a plug or not??

On to the next question, Is there much benifit to running the trans cooler for the tranny?? I dont overheat stuff-However stuff can and does happen, How much would you loose if you just bagged it?? Cooling wise? Just for a short period until i can get a real cooler thats not antifreeze dependant, Any suggestion as to what is the most cost effective, Best fitment overall cooler?? Thanks,

No there's no plug on the torque converter. I strongly advise you to not disable the stock cooler, not sure why you want to anyway. You WILL overheat the trans if you don't have any cooler at all. Even if you add another cooler, you should still keep the stock one in addition to the new one.

I Thank You once again for your input, Anything else you can think of that i could easily service why im here? Any filter better than others ( as per the tranny drain and refill)? Thanks once again. B.
 
If you want extra filtration, you can install a Magnefine filter. It goes in-line on the cooler lines. My truck has rubber lines that go from the radiator cooler to the stock aux cooler. I cut the rubber line shorter and connected the filter there. It has an oil filter-like media and a magnet for catching magnetic debris.
