99 Ranger build

Wow. What horrible luck. Sorry to hear that. What a drag man. After all that work. At least it can all be reused on the new axle, aside from the leaf perch.

Update on my end: got my welder yesterday for my bday. Going outta town this weekend for my bday. When I get back I'm Gonna start wiring up my breaker box for 50 amp and have a friend give me a crash course on stick welding so I can at least tack stuff together. Then finally gonna start a build thread

Going sunday to tear my rear end out of truck and strip it down so i can haul it home and transfer the measurements over to the new one.

I was goin to buy those. But when you run blocks, makes the anti wrap perch kinda useless. So for half the price I can buy them locally but I'm not sure how perfect my grinding skills need to be to open up the arch. Anyone got tips on how to correctly open it up to fit d60?

I get almost all my metal pieces from ruff stuff, including the perchs. they have them any size u need like the 3in dana 60 tubes. Really good service too.

i'd use a flap disc on your grinder. that's what i used to do this:

did it in less than a minute. i'd test fit them first though, you may have plenty of metal to weld to and not have to remove anything.

That's what I was hoping for. If its 1/4" or less of a gap, it can be filled in right? If I have to grind it down, my bigger worry is that I'll grind one side to far and it won't be level, but I guess that's what a "level" is for hahaha

grind...test fit...grind...test fit...repeat until its perfect.

1/4" is too far IMO, i like it to be 1/8" at the very most

Well pulled my rearend from the ranger today and hauled it home. Used the wifes durango and put it in the back, what a pain in the rear putting it in and out by myself.
Anyway got it home and striped most of the stuff off and clean up the real 60. just waiting for the hub socket to show up so i can pull the hubs, borrowed a friends last time so i just decided to get my own.

Their pretty much the same, just the 60 center section is smaller than the 61.

Ether tonight or tomarrow night will be putting the gears in and should almost be ready to go.

About to start cleaning up my rear axle. How did you go about cleaning it up for paint? Just wire wheel and degreaser? What are the steps for prep and paint? Did you hand sand the entire thing to get all the small crevices clean? Any primer?

All i do is wire brush it with my grinder and degrease it with cleaner. and paint it with spraypaint. The small crevices i just hand brush clean.
