Hey, all. Thought I'd take some time off from wrenching on my Ranger to do a little work on my mother's car. She has a 1995 Sable, and the ignition actuator rod, (or whatever you call it) has broken. The car can be started, but the only way I've found to turn it off is to pull the fuse under the hood. Well, I guess I could have disconnected the alternator, as well, but I only thought of that just now.
Anyway, here's my question: Is this very difficult to change out myself? This happened on a similar 95 Sable that my wife and I used to own, and we took it to our usual mechanic, and were charged somewhere between $100 and $150. I looked online, and I've found the part itself for anywhere between about $7 to around $14, depending on where you get it from. I would assume I would only need to pull the shroud off the steering column, and pull the existing lock cylinder to get access to the actuator rod, but I haven't actually torn into it yet to take a look. Any tips or how-to's here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
