95 ford ranger 4 cyl on 22s?

the rears all you need cause you got 4x2. and http://www.rearendparts.com/product.php?productid=1418 is a start at lease it gives you a part # to look online, but just do searchs on ford 7.5(most likely you rear axle type) and 4.10 gears to get the best price. also look to see if there is a Certified Auto Recycler in your neck of the woods some time they got good deals. also look at junk yards(most likely for a whole rear at a jy). and look at the tech library on this site to get an idea of what is need to do a axle swap. and what trucks to look for to find what you are looking for.

is it maybe just kicking out of o/d when he accelerates?

just a thought

Like TRX501RYAN said it may be just kicking out of o/d. My bro-in-laws f-150 does that when getting onto the highway and when accelerating to pass a semi.

um, gears isn't going to solve the problem...

if this is a 5 speed tranny, the clutch is SHOT, an auto tranny wouldn't do that unless there were issues in it, the torque converter isn't going to slip because of a couple inches of tires, there are lots of people using those gears on 4x4's with 33's and such working just fine.

how much taller are the tires than stock? drive next to a friend with stock tires or at least a semi accurate speedometer see how far it is off. if the tires are only an inch or two bigger it'll cause the speedo to be a fair amount off, gears will fix this and make up for some of the acceleration lost with taller tires, but that doesn't mean the clutch still isn't toast.

my bet is on the clutch being shot...

just saw the second page, didn't think of kicking out of O/D, gears would help that, it would change the shift points back to stock.

don't just go for 4.10's, look what gears you have now, what tires did it have stock and what tires do you have now (the wheel size doesn't mean anything to me tire height wise). 4.10's might be good to go with, but if you have 3.08's now, 3.73's are easier to find in the junk yard and would be about right, but if you have 3.45's or 3.73's then 4.10's would be what to go with. if you were closer I'd sell you my axle for cheap, but it's got issues... but has 4.10's

i was gonna say we need to know if its an automatic, or a stick shift.

its Manual, read his info page. it dont have od to kick out of and stock tires for a mid 90's 4x2 are 14", or 15". hes got 22" on it now, thats more then a few in's. + theres the rubber to. thats geting up there. and 4x4s i dont think have the same gears as 4x2, and with deeper gears that will help the engine to get those wheels moving.

well my ranger had 3.08s i think in the rear thats why i said go to 3.73

Wow, there's lots of mis-information here... First off, sounds like someone needs a new clutch, and a lesson on how to drive it, second stock tires are NOT 14"... You need to look at your tire size, the OEM rear end R&P ratio that is in your truck, and compare what tires came off your truck to the ones that are on it now (http://www.4lo.com/) There is a good calculator that will tell you tire height (from metric) and your gear ratio... If you have tires that are ANY taller than the stock tires, with a 2.3, I'd go at least to 4.10's (IMO, 2.3 + any taller tire than a 235/75-15 = 4.56's)

Ya I did read if it was a manual or auto. From the sounds of it a clutch is in need of replacing.

rim size doesn't matter tire size does my mustang has 17's and the tires are only 26 inches tall and my montego has 15's and the tires are 28inches tall. it all has to do with tire roll out.

thank you... it was a bit thick, you were more blunt than I...

from personal experience, 25" tires aren't too bad with 3.08's, 3.73's work fairly well with 28" tires, and 4.10's are a little tall for 31" tires (they work, but 5th gear is only usable on flat land), I'm going 4.88's with 33's next

yea

thanks for the info guys so u think its my clutch? i went to a 4x4 shop and from what i told the guy he said it was my gears and recommended 3:73 from a 02 explorer or sport track but i called the junk yaRD AND THE GUY ISISTED THAT IT WOULDNT FIT .. i just replaced my clutch in february... is there any way i can test the clutch before i replace it again? and will a 01 to 06 explorer differential fit my 95 ranger splash 2wd 5spd with overdrive ... reminder 5th gear is overdrive on my truck? also my truck doesnt rev high unless i reallly try to step on it .. today i eased the gas pedal and had no problem i kept it at 60 and from i tested today it runs 7mph faster than what it reads on the speedo.. ONCE AGAIN I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH GUYS I REALLY WANT TO KEEP THE RIMS ON MY TRUCK PLEASE HELP.. ALL INFO DOES HELP ME HERE

If you are in gear and you mash the pedal and the RPM's jump, then your clutch is toast, and if you just replaced it in February you need a good lesson in clutch management... A truck that is just road driven everyday should never need a clutch replaced (if driven off-road frequently or used for alot of towing, I could see having to replace it prematurely)...

As for your gearing, I need to know what tire size you have first, THEN and only then can I recommend a gear swap... Honestly, if you are going to swap, go to at least 4.10:1 ratio... 2.3 + 4.10's if perfect with a 29" (235/75-15) tire or equivalent...

No, you CANNOT get anything from an Explorer as they have a 31spl 8.8" rear axle and you have a 28spl 7.5" rear axle... You can probably find an entire axle from a 2.3/3.0 truck that has 4.10's (if you can find a 2.3 4x4 they usually have 4.10's)... Or you can buy them, and have someone install them...
