94 Ranger Timing belt

It is a Public Forum, so there will be people that abuse others, unfortunately that is unavoidable in the short term, but consistent abusers are usually banned.

A monkey can write a Shakespeare play as well, and a monkey is smarter than the person that called you a monkey, so.......grain of salt

Timing belt remove and replace work is by no means easy, I think people might mean there is a lot of boring wrench work to get to the part that requires some skill and specific knowledge, and then more boring wrench work to put it back together.

So with the 131 tooth belt installed do the timing marks line back up after two rotations of the Crank shaft?
They should

I can't see the number of teeth on the belt making any difference at all, the number of teeth on the cam, crank and oil pump gears are the only thing that matters and you haven't changed those.

As you said...either they remain lined up or they don't. As long as they remain in correct alignment with marks after making the rotations - good to go.

My whole problem here guys is that the right belt is not going on. With the 131 tooth I couldn't get it timed together correctly and the 129 tooth I cant get the sucker on. Wish I could post a pic here to see. I had to give yp for a few day but in need of my truck.

Im so bull headed I wont take it some place. I worked at our nearby Ford lot ford 9yrs that was 14yrs ago, but most of the same Techs are still their so I walked my ass in their and picked their brains as well. I did get better treatment than here in a manner. only because I know these fellas. Came up with nothing from them. When not if I get back on the pavement I will let out my problem witch hopefuly I wont feel to stupid.

Not sure why the 131 tooth would make any difference at all in the timing marks.
The 131 tooth belt is referenced as a correct belt for your engine as is the 129 tooth belt, I assume the difference could be in the idler pulley size or head type(Cam is higher) so you need a slightly longer belt.

A timing Belt could have a 1,000 teeth and it wouldn't matter in the actual timing of the cam, oil pump and crank gears.
Cam and oil pump have the same number of slots in their gears for the belt teeth, crank shaft gear has 1/2 that number, that's the only thing that sets or matters in the timing.

So as long as crank shaft rotates exactly twice for each one rotation of the cam/oil pump gears then it is timed correctly.

If you still have the old belt compare it against the new one to make sure youve got the correct replacement length. The new belt should be only slightly shorter than the old one. Also try removing the tensioner assembly and make sure that its not binding and that the spring on the tensioner is positioned correctly when reinstalling the tensioner. You may need to check the tech library or a chiltons manual to see if you can find a diagram that shows correct tensioner spring positioning. Its been a while since I've done one of these but it may be possible that the tensioner spring is not positioned correctly thus not allowing the tensioner to fully release.

Best of luck.

why not take pictures off the tensioner position and belt and post so we can see exactly the problem you are having....

Go figure! Its a transplant. How is one to know with out being told or going through what I have this past week. Its a 97 Ranger and calls for a different belt of couse. Found my problem was not knowing and being stubburn enough to not look more into such thing. Thanks for all help and support. I will try to pay forword cuz it does help everyone.
