Hello! I am the new owner of a 1994 B3000 3.0L V6. It's a 5 speed, my first manual transmission car, but I noticed that the motor mounts may be going bad. I have not gotten a chance to take a closer look at the issue yet (I had to go to work, and got a ride instead of risking making the problem worse).

Does anybody here have experience with the mounts on this thing? Any advice? I know I technically could handle this at home by myself, but is this the kind of thing I should leave to a mechanic, despite the costs?

Well... how much pain can you tolerate? I've done a motor mount job and it is quite doable at home but you about have to just about take the block out in order to do it. The motor mounts to frame bolts are 19mm and not that bad to remove as long as you have some wobble extensions. The motor mount to engine block bracket is a 19mm as well (I think) and it's not bad at all, you'll need a deep well for that one. The bracket to block bolts are 13's and there are 6 total. They aren't terrible to remove either as long as you have some extensions and some patience. The hard part about all of this is that you have to lift the block high enough so that you can slide the old mounts out and the new ones in. If you take the hat off the distributor and loosen up the transmission mount you can juuuuuust get enough clearance to pull it off. Conversely, you can wait until you really need to take the block out for something, or go ahead and pay the mechanic to do the work for you.

Be advised if you do it yourself the local part stores don't have the inventory data right for one of the mounts. I think it was on the driver's side you need the mount that is for the b4000 of that year instead of the one they call out for the b3000. Ultimately always compare the old part and new before you start trying to install stuff. Let me know if you have more questions.
