i just bought a 1993 ranger 4x4 5 speed ext. cab, i wanna lift it and i have some questions. i am looking at skyjackers class 1 6 inch lift and 33 x 12.5 inch tires. thats what im thinking. now some questions, any better suggestions, what else will i need to go with the lift?, how do wheel bearings and ball joints hold up to somthing like this? also ill need a 1 piece driveshaft right? im not a hard core off roader, more looking good and some mudding/screwing around. give me any comments or advice and id greatly appreciate it.
thanks
cory

The Skyjacker kits are overall about the best it gets at the moment.
One thing though, on a Supercab truck, the 6" kits are only good for about a 4.5" lift (due to their heavier weight), so you might want to get some shims, washers, or coil spacers to go underneath the front coil mounts to bring it back up another inch & a half or so (alternatively, you can mount the axle in the upper (4" lift) bracket holes and it should align fine).

Balljoints are not a problem area on the '83-'97 trucks. Wheelbearings however can be if the preload and locknut torque isn't setup properly. Generally you want to preload them no more than hand tight with the socket, and then (if you have manual locking hubs), crank the outer locknut down to 225-250ft-lbs.

Hope that helps.

Welcome to the site! Be forewarned though, you may become addicted to this place lol

will manule hubs get rid of the push button then or what? any more suggestions or comments?

also, 4x4 junkie, do you have gears with your 33's? i no someone who ran 35's without and was fine?

Manual hubs are just that, manual hubs, you have to get out and lock 'em in. Now your transfer case, that is electronic because of the pushbutton, it will be that way until you swap a manual one in.

Running 35's without regearing would be like trying to wheelchair up everest.....

4.56 good for 33's
4.88 good for 35's

Welcome to site! Like he said, it's addicting

so whats so good about them? ne lift opinions too?

The SkyJacker kits? They are the best made.

I have a Superlift 5.5 and have no complaints....

Well the springs are a little stiff, but thats ok

Vacuum hubs is '98-'00 only.

On a '93, the auto hubs are mechanical. The reliability thing still holds true though, they suck.
Manual hubs are much simpler, and stronger. They also can be left locked in without any issues (such as during the winter months) if you don't want to get out to lock them each time. You'll lose about 0.5-1 MPG leaving them locked however.

I have 4.10 gears for the 33s on my 4.0L Ranger, yes. They're adequate, but nothing more (I should've gone with 4.56).

so its looking like ill need the class 1 skyjakcer kit, 4 shocks, drop pitman arm, steering stabalizer and 1 piece drive shaft. thats it? o and the sway bar end link kit and extended brake lines?

you can ditch the end links & the stabilizer... stabilizer can get thrown on later on if you really want it. but everything else is a good list.

its will be ok without the sway bar hooked up?

so what do you guys think about the superlift kit, i found the entire kit on 4 wheel parts with everything but brake lines for around 750
