Hello, I'm planning on replacing my exhaust since it's real rusty and the muffler already rusted off. I'm planning on getting new headers on as well, I managed to get all the bolts loose without snapping anything (thank goodness!) but there's a tube connected to the back end of it and I'm not exactly sure on what it is. It's rusted to heck so I'd like to replace it if possible. Here's some pics of the part.

So the main thing that I'd like to know is, what this is so I can check replacement parts, and if anyone has any tips for removing it, cause that sure does look crusty.

Thanks.

That is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation line (EGR). It wraps around the back of the engine and up and over to a recirculation valve on the intake manifold. You are probably going to have to damage it in order to get it off. I would make sure you have a replacement before you tackle the job since it is an emissions component and legally should be intact and in operation.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm assuming that this line connects the manifold to the EGR valve itself? And yeah, seems like I might very well have to damage it to get it off, gonna hose it down with penetrating oil for a few days to see if it can help at all.

Also I tried looking around some sites for that part and I couldn't find anything that said it would fit my year, if anyone has suggestions on where I could find the part it would be much appreciated.

I wonder how similar the newer ones are? 95+ seems to be the oldest available new. I know they have the DPFE hose fittings, but those can be closed off easily enough. Even if the shape is different, as long as the ends are the same size and thread, you get one and have the ends cut off and an exhaust shop could make a new pipe from that.

Yes, the line on the EGR valve is the same line. I have no suggestions on where to get it or what the part number might be other than see if the Ford Parts site or Tasca still has listings for your year of truck and search through that. Manufacturer sites aren't super user friendly but are the best source for finding part numbers, if they still have a parts listing for your year, make, and model.

Appreciate the help guys, I think I'll take a look at how the pipe on mine looks and compare to the 95' models, if it looks similar hopefully the threads are the same. I'll keep this thread updated just in case it can help anyone else.

Hello, Opijamee
I'm also working on the EGR valve connections and hoses. Would you mind uploading some pictures of your EGR valve, as well as the sensor and the vacuum connections it has? I just can't find the correct way to connect those hoses.

Thanks in advance

Sure, I can when I get the chance. I rolled my ankle 2 weeks ago so I haven't been able to do much. But I'll keep this thread updated when I can actually work on the truck again.

Thanks in advance. I hope you get better soon
Hey sorry for the delayed response, just want to let you know what I wound up doing with my exhaust.

So I didn't remove the egr line and I instead just replaced the manifold gasket and then put the new exhaust on after that. All I did the the egr was just disconnect the line from the valve to get enough play with it to get the new gasket in.

I can tell you that my egr line went straight from the manifold into the egr valve, so no other connections that I could tell were attached to the line.
Sorry if this isn't more helpful, I can still send some pictures if you'd like.
