1988 Ranger - Need help identifying drivetrain part

For those replacing/installing em, I have another tidbit that at first I dismissed but figure since I know I might as well share... apparently most of em have a directionality to em, there is an arrow usually and it matters which way they are installed.

Do you guys know if it's difficult to remove the coupler/guibo?

It's pretty straightforward I think, just need 2 ratchets/wrenches to hold each end of the bolts that go into the guibo, so that they don't just turn freely in there. It's 100% easier if you have a friend help you with is, which is what I did. Also if your from AZ I'm gonna assume that your undercarriage isn't as crusty and rusty as mine lol, which should help. You can also unbolt the center support bearing (should only be like 2 bolts) it can give you a bit more play in the driveshaft, it made it easier to take out the old guibo and put the new one in.
Also worth noting that mine was disintegrated so taking it out was pretty easy.

Very useful info, I'm gonna check mines to see if it's installed with the arrow pointing the right way.

I wonder, would it be possible to drill out the bolt holes to 12mm? That would be a difference of .079" so it would thin the wall of the hole reinforcing by .0395", not a huge difference....

Probably but like you said the difference is pretty insubstantial so I think that just using 10s will be fine

If original bolt size is 12mm, I would try to get 12mm bolts back in it. But, hey, it’s only transmitting transmission torque to the drive shaft. Just ease up on using the accelerator pedal.

TL/DR; GA000-094 drill out 10mm to 12mm. @opijmee mind adding a condensed version of this to the very first post for posterity.


FYI, since I had all the contact info literally right in front of me after having done all the google-fu. I decided to just ping SGF and ask them what the current part number is for their old part number GF20s, here is there entire reply unadulterated (I think the respondent is native German and not mastered English, so forgive the grammar) :

Dear Customer,



The GF 20 has expired. There is no direct replacement.
There is a comparable flexible disc, but the inner diameter of the bush is here 10.15 mm and not 12 mm like the original.
The torque is nearly the same.



This means that if you think, you would drill out the 6 bushes sections to 12 mm, it should fit geometrically.
However, this reduces the surface area for the screw connection, which could possibly be a problem,
as far as the setting behaviour of the screw connection is concerned.



You must ensure that the screw connection is permanently fixed.

Ok so I found two. Original Guibo width is 30mm.
One of the guibos is 32mm and the other 29mm.
The 29mm looks weird tho and the 32mm looks nearly identical to my original. Which should I order? They are charging almost $20 for shipping each so it'll burn a hole in my pocket ordering em and returning them.

I didn't post the pdf that was attached to the email from germany because it was a pdf which contained a huge 1 page raw technical drawing and would not export as a picture - everything I tried was an error even printing it.... so here's a screenshot of the 2 relevant quadrants of that pdf... I would say whichever one best fits the dimensions correctly (but considering the headache in dealing with a part that isn't really needed until you get over 120mph, myself I would just get a single driveshaft at this point).....

Yeah you don't want a steering rag joint.

Measure your old one to find out the bolt pattern. The O'Reilly one is listed as such "Bolt Pattern Diameter (mm): 105mm"

You just need to find a flex coupler with the same bolt size and bolt pattern and it'll work
