87 ranger 4x4 electronic shift problems

I have a 87 Ranger and i the guy i got it from told me the electronic shift switch is bad. I replaced that and i am getting nothing. i am getting power to the switch but when i press it i get nothing. I dont know if it is the motor on the t-case or if it is the control module or my other switch could even be bad. What could be my problem? Is there any way to test the system?

most just remove and replace. not uncommon for the shift motor and/or control module to fail on the electronic tc's. if you don't want to deal with those issues, best bet is to swap in a manual tc and call it good.

i thought about a manual shift but how hard is the conversion from automatic to manual hubs and case?

essentially, remove and replace. there are really good write-ups in the Tech Library (blue tab at the top of the page) that cover both the tc and the hubs. used manual tc's can be found in the 'parts for sale' forum here as well as the local jy, craig's list, etc. or you can post up in the 'parts wanted' forum to get a good one from a fellow trs member.

victory! I found a doner bronco II with manual t case and hubs. Not bad for 50 bucks, the wndows were busted thats it

excellent!!! glad to hear you can get the swap done now. don't forget that there are additional washers, iirc, that are needed for the manual hubs to bolt up to your axles. check about that conversion in the tech library here on TRS and you'll be fine.
