86 Ranger Speedometer and cruise control

I've got no Speedometer and no Cruise control in m 86 Ranger. It started by the Speedo bouncing about 20Km/h and the cruise trying to correct in the opposite direction as the Speedo. I think this is my VSS but I'm not sure as I've been unable to locate any info on if in 1986 it was a combined unit for VSS and mechanical Speedo.

Most likely you have the electronic VSS plugged into the trans, for the cruise, and the cable for the speedometer connects to that.
That is the was my '91 was.

My VSS broke it two one day.
Check yours, make sure it's bolted in snugly.

Pull the vss and check both gears. Sounds like you could be missing a tooth or two.

I think I found my problem. Pulled the VSS and there are no teeth left on the sensors gear. Thank-you to those that helped.
