'85 Ranger Restomod

Aren't the single pump fuel gauge senders a different resistance though?

That's true for 89+. The combo that works is an 86-88 sending unit and 89+ pump - you get a single high pressure pump in the tank and your gas gauge will work.

I used that heater hose fitting on mine to replace the normal one that was on my Crown Vic engine. The thing I hated about that fitting was that it went straight up and was 3/4 instead of 5/8 so I had to run a reducer and a piece of 3/4 hose. I don't know what application it is for but it worked perfectly for me to get the heater hose at a good angle and retain the factory coolant temp sensor.

I’ve been wondering about fuel pump for my swap, also. Just looking at info on RickAuto, it appears that the pump in my Ranger is rated at 28gph. But the one for my donor explorer is rated 32gph. I don’t know exactly how much flow I need. And wondering if I should order an Explorer pump for the 5.0l and see if it will fit the in-tank bracket on my Ranger.

IIRC I don't think the Explorer has a return line either.

Mines a little below an Explorer motor but my low pressure 2.9 fuel pump has been working fine. Rockauto says it is 19gph lol.

It may effect the spray pattern of your injectors or something weird like that though. A '86 5.0 F-150 high pressure pump is the same as what you have now while a '96 F-150 is also 32gph. :dntknw:

10mpg is like 6gph at 60mph... so if you are starving it because of fuel flow at 28gph you better have something pretty thirsty.

I've used that several times for doing a single pump conversion on 1st gen trucks. It fits the sending units on those where the low pressure pump goes almost exactly and I have not had any of them go bad on me yet. PJ turned me on to these years ago. I'm using that exact part with my V8 swapped truck.

Roughly 85gph @Curious Hound

I could get two, throw one under the seat for a spare and be cheaper than pretty much any other single pump...

I saw that one when I was looking earlier. That’s way more than enough flow. Just don’t know anything about brand reputations except things I’ve heard of like Carter, Walbro. Bosch, Delphi. I may have put a Bosch in it years ago when I did the filler pipe. Wonder if I have the part #info in my binder.

I think they are all kind of a crapshoot.

I was thinking Precision from O'Reilly because they are everywhere and have a lifetime warranty.

I forgot about PJ always going on about these.

My red Holley pump was rated for more, its just volume not pressure.

We’re not running 1,000hp race engines. As long as it maintains enough pressure at redline, everything is golden. But, heck that one in the link is only $40.48 each if you buy 2. And that’s with new strainer socks.

Thats just it, if it didn't flood out his 2.9 we should be good. Not sure about you but my system will require a return line like a normal EFI Ranger, so extra volume can just go back where it came from.

I don't think Explorers had a return though.

I'm tellin' ya, I think they're as good or better than anything else on the market. Maybe not Motorcraft but certainly most other brands! My eBay purchase history says the first one I used was bought in October 2020 and it's still going strong. I will confess that I did buy spares, though, just in case - the price sure allows for that!

Yeah. I haven’t checked that yet. But it’s my truck and I can build it any way I want.

I'm pretty sure it's like the Rangers and they lost the return line in '98... but I haven't dug into my '98 Explorer and definitely haven't looked at the '97 Mountaineer...
