6.9l International

Will- Some of your hairbrained ideas just make me shake my head and laugh. Do you seriously think there is more room between the back of the cab and the axle than there is under the hood? You might want to go take some measurements, because to put that combo in the bed would require a v drive and axle reversal. Not to mention the weight wouldn't be properly centered over the rear axle. :thefinger:

Which of my ideas?

I think there's room. Didn't some nut have a 460 back there with a bunch of trannies and cases behind it and a welded-beams D50?

The weight argument is weak. The rear axle is where the weight goes on any truck. The closer to the rear axle the better.

Anyway, doesn't matter what I think. If I were a betting man, and I am, I would bet against this truck ever driving woth a 6.9 in it unless someone like B.W.III were doing it, and someone like him doesn't do threads like this asking how to do it. The good news is, scrap metal is high--about $1 per 10# last time I went. A butchered Ranger body is worth $250.

No, Will is what Will always is... a giant ray of realism.
Why do you keep posting to this thread? We all know by now that you don't think too highly of my idea. So what. I don't think too much of your maverick either. They're little gay pos death traps; but that's my OPINION. I certainly didn't feel the need to ruin your mavjerk thread with pointless, satirical comments.

Before this thread is closed, I just want to thank everyone that actually wanted to help for the tips.:icon_cheers:

why would it be closed.?.?

just go to the parts store and have a look at a 79 bronco steering gear....

will is just trying to motovate you.:stirthepot:

Outside the frame steering box, with 2 small u-joints for the steering shaft.

Immediately after the firewall have a small u-joint, aim the intermediate shaft towards the top of the driverside tire. This intermediate shaft should have a slip joint as well.

Then once you are outside the fame add your second u-joint and the steering shaft can get pillow blocked (mount the pillow block useing a bracket vertically up from the frame) then down to your outside the frame steering box.

Hope this helps you get on the right track.

thats it. if you need more then that you need to do mods to move the column exit over.

a jeep shaft should work on the ford box from the body. done.

I would probably set the motor in before I started buying steering gears, and assorted parts....

yeah. i agree.

but the outside gear works good with 460/454 and cleveland swaps not to mention mod motors...

then again i seen dakota rack units on cleveland swaps.

I don't mean to be negative. Just do yourself a favor and try to work out all of the issues on paper before you buy anything. Take a measuring tape and try to figure out where things are going to fit. Nothing depresses me more than another failed attempt. Especially when there are so many easier swaps that you could do out of your hat and be happier with. For a Ranger I would be looking for a Mercedes engine/tranny for instance. Or the Lincoln, BMW diesel.
