well my 98 Ranger now will only go in 1st if i manually put it there.
then when i shift manually to drive ,thats all i have.
any ideas ? i cant find a used tranny anywhere locally.
had it chked awhile back before it lost the other gears and 2 of the solenoids chked bad. would you recommend a valve body with all 6 solenoids from ebay ?
someone help me out here please.

Valve body sounds like the only plausible suspect to me. I would not recommend the flea-bay one though.

Where are you located and what engine is it?

If he has a 5R55 he has a 4.0.

The valve body is a POS in the 5R's. I would recommend getting a kit or valve body (updated) from Sonnax. It's the best stuff on the market.

im in kentucky, 4.0 engine

If he has a 5R55 he has a 4.0.

5r55 came behind the 3.0 in certain models. Like my 03 edge that the tranny is out of for good.

I think it had a 5R44E, didn't it? Maybe I'm wrong - but I've always had that programmed in my melon. The 3.0 had the 5R44, and the 4.0 had the 5R55.

To my knowledge the 5R55 only came with the 4.0 and in the Lincoln LS.

The 3.0 Ranger, would have had a 5R44.

Regardless, if it is a 5R55E it doesn't matter which engine. The 5R transmissions had removable bell housings.

You get what you pay for. If you are spending less than $200 on a valve body because you don't have the money for a good one then start saving as soon as you get it because you will need money to buy it again.
