Not really sure what to search for so im just gonna post it.

I currently have an 86 ranger with a 5.0 MAF / EEC IV setup. Whats the best / easiest option to run this engine in an 04 ranger? OBDII would be nice but if he current setup would swap over without much issue (PATS?) Id leave the current electronics alone for now.

any direction is appreciated
thanks

Wiring is going to be your biggest issue, the wrong ECU the second. Your ranger uses the ECU to determine vehicle speed. But the engine swap itself and getting it running is self explanatory. Pats won't be an issue. You will almost have to swap to OBD2....

If I go to OBDII do I also have to ditch the distributor? (Not too familiar with the newer systems)

Yes, if your familiar with the explorer ignition/electrical system, that is what you will need to run. Check out my sport Trac thread, first post. Not as intense, but gives you an idea of what will need to be done...

When you switch to the explorer setup, you lose the dizzy and switch to coil packs. There is a cam syncronizer that installs in place of the dizzy, gives you more room and less tuneup parts to replace...

Awesome. Now I got a shopping list of what I gotta get from the junkyard. Hopefully this will be more "plug and play" than the current setup.

Just found a 99 explorer limited as a possibility for parts for the new truck. Anyone know if the explorer interior to include dash and all the fancy electronics could be swapped into an 04 ranger? I imagine the electrical is possible if i swap all of it, but will it physically fit without too much hassle?
