I've got a 2000 explorer setup swapped into a 99 ranger. the explorer was awd automatic, the ranger is rwd manual with a t5. motor is stock other than e303 cam, torque monsters headers, and 24lb fuel injectors.

I got a quote from a local shop to tune it is around $700+

I bought the x4 tuner thinking I would be able to do it myself but based on the menu there is not much to be changed. So I'm thinking about getting the sct proracer tuning software witch is $350.

My questions are...

How do I tell the ECU that it is a manual now?
Does anyone have experience with the proracer tuning software?
Any other thoughts?

In order to do anything useful with the sct, you need the proracer software. I have used that on several vehicles and it is pretty capable. For example, I used it when I put the Explorer pcm system on the Cleveland in my 66 project truck, and I was able to get the Cleveland to run very well even though the tuning setup for that is way different from the Windsor. I have heard that their customer service is not very good these days, after they merged with bully dog, so that is something to be aware of.

So I should be able to fix the automatic transmission to manual issue if I get the proracer software?
Do I need the x4 to go from the proracer to the ECU?

Yes, you will be able to take out all the auto trans stuff with the software.

Yes, you need to use the computer to make the tune, then load it on the X4 (or one of their other tuning devices) and then use that to download it to the pcm.

Can that same software also turn off EGR, DPFE, & the 2 Catalyst monitor sensors? Not asking for a friend, asking for my own self, lol

With the sct proracer advantage 3 software I was able to adjust the two downstream o2s and EGR. On the explorers ECU. Not sure about DPFE.

Thanks for the reply, Spiffy-fish
I'm assuming injector size along with MAF sensor size can be adjusted?

I can confirm injectors can be changed I have not messed with the maf yet myself but there are definitely settings for it that can be adjusted

This is what I needed to know also, my '00 Explorer will get some modifications down the line... I should order that before something stupid happens...

Here's a link to the software I have.

I'm definitely not an expert I can just tell you what I know from what I have experienced

They do most vehicles - you should be able to do an inquiry on their website to confirm that they have unlocked the pcm in question.

Yes, you can change mafs parameters as well as injectors. You can modify pretty much everything you will need. I used it when I put the RPCaster supercharger kit on my 03 4.0 Ranger, and I am about to use it again when I put the Moddbox kit on my 09. I just have been reviewing what I did on the 03, and there were 23 tables that I made adjustments in. The 09 will have more adjustments because this one is an auto while the 03 was a manual. I just have to buy another pcm unlock which I have not priced for a while so I'm not sure what they charge for that at this time.
