4d55 turbo diesel info

The FM146/A4LD/M5OD are all about 3" longer then the FM145.

The diesel trucks came with the fm 145 from the factory. that is probably what's behind the engine you're looking at.

oh2ranger, do you have the infos about the motor mounts? i have motor mounts from a mitsubishi lying around. Maybe worth checking. I'll start the diesel engine removal process this week. weather is nice and i'm laid off. best time to start instead of getting pissed and all.:icon_hornsup:

I believe the mitsubishi mounts kick off at an angle off the block. From the factory, ranger-style 4d55's had 90 degree brackets that mounted on the engine that gave a more traditional mount on the crossmember. The engine brackets are not directly across from one another, so you have to have or make a little 'foot' to slip the mount onto. This probably doesn't make any sense without looking at pictures, and I haven't read the whole thread.. but your doing a diesel ranger (green) to a ranger (black) swap right? Same Generation.. you shouldn't have to worry about anything if your using the green as a donor.. maybe I'm missing something?

Ill try to work on a few pictures with what i'm doing as far as mounts. What are the gear ratio's in your trucks?

Well, i don't want to put back 25 years old motor mounts. i don't know what they look like but at idle both sticks shakes a good bit.

i don't know the gear ratio in the trucks, yet.

Ya I gotcha. My I tried looking for mounts for it, I only found one, and it was broken. I don't know why it was even listed for sale. They are weird looking bastards too.

I've rread a thread on here of a guy that would reman those. he just put them in a fire to remove the old rubber and with a simple mold, pour another one. I might go that route.

i still havent worried too much about mounts i figured worse case ill make some solid mounts or do some home made bushing kinda thing haha like i said the motor will be sitting in the garage for a while im not too worried on the instal as of now

Hey eric, next time you get a chance to crawl under and see what rear ends you have, I'd appreciate it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to do something different with mine

3.45 is the gear ratio. From what guys told me on here in my other thread, you don't have to worry that much about it. :icon_thumby:

so theyre 3:45's with 30's? well then i feel like id be alright with my 33's and 3.73's huh? hopefully haha cause itll look goofy if i have to set it back down on 30's

well i wound up getting the both of them. :thefinger::yahoo: one (left) came from a ram 50 and runs but dont sound good haha has welded rocker arms and 2 rods hahaha and the other (right) out of a ranger runs perfect maybe new crank bearrings things like that before it goes in... then theres the fm145, transfer case, harness x2, and a box of random goodies for um got a bad ass inner cooler too but didnt get a pic
