4d55 turbo diesel info

what kind of money do you guys think all this stuff i have is worth? ive been kicking around the idea of selling all my 4d55 stuff and my truck for a full sized diesel. wont be as good of mileage but i think ill need and want more power than what ill get out of the 4d55

what you paid.they are not the most sought after. i paid 750 for a running truck to give you an idea. list them in the sale section, i think you'll sell those easier on here.

To be honest, I don't think they are worth much either as they sit. Most people won't be interested such a large project and likely intimidated by the mods necessary to get it working / running. (assuming they don't have a dead ranger with 4d55 originally or D50) I think to get the most out of what you have you would have to install it into something. If you decide to try to sell or part it out, I might be interested in a few parts just letting ya know.

I would so snag those engines...if I didn't love my 302 so much. But also if I had another ranger to put them in for a good mpg vehicle then I would.

yeah i get what you guys are saying...im still debating... the whole reason for the change of mind is im figuring on a base figure of $1000 to do the swap. but the resale in my truck i dont see increasing too much. and i know ill want a full size soon after i do the swap. hell i want one know. i just dont see enough power out of these without emptying every penny i got. but idk... maybe ill swap it then sell my truck

You'd better sell the whole thing as a project then start a swap you're not really interested in. If you decide to sell the thing halfway, you'll take the bite, moneywise. because nobody likes to "continue" the work of someone else, well, i don't.

part your engine, or sell as a combo, the choice is yours, then start looking around for a nice full size you really want. Then upgrade what you want on your truck as you go.

to give you an idea, my ranger will cost me close to 4k$ when i'll be done with it. No way i'm selling it, if i were you, i wouldnt go through all that's involved swaping your truck to diesel if it's for selling it.

My old dad always says: Only crazy people never change their minds.

and if you have to, now is the best time

my 0.2 cents

well i should have plenty of funds to finish the project, or save and buy a full size this summer. but just not both. im looking at around 5 to 6 grand to buy a full size and my brother (who's job im taking over at company im now at) made 4500ish last summer. so ive been thinking do the swap as planned, see if i like it/ how much power i can get out of it (since thats what im after) and maybe take advantage of the mileage for a little while while re-saving for a full size. then when i get like 3 grand saved up try and off the diesel ranger for about 4 grand or more? thats the only plan ive found where i still get a full size in a timely manor, and dont have to worry about the motors sitting around for a year trying to get sold. itll be a while before i get to the "no turning back point" of pulling my drivetrain, so i have time to decide still. what do you guys think?

It's all about finding that balance... While you probably won't "make much money" selling as is, as a basket case of parts, you also don't want to start something and be forced to sell mid-way. A good scenario would be getting it in and running, from there, it should appeal to more buyers knowing that the foundation is there, and the cosmetics, aftermarket..etc is all up to them. I'd like to see it personally, I like watching these projects unfold.. but I hate seeing one start and not get finished. Your cash, your time, its ultimately up to you and what your after. Maybe you could find a cheap ranger so you wouldn't have to put yours out of commission? Thats what I've been doing. My Daily is an 02 and project is a 94. I don't have to sweat bullets waiting on parts to come in or if a problem arises. I payed 500 for the 94, and sold the engine and trans for 250 (engine was seized).

yeah see thats why i was thinking just go through with the swap... and itd be nice to buy another RBV but i will have a truck to drive while doing the swap because my brother is going to college and leaving his truck... 2wd f150... whoooo hooo hahaha let alone its been tipped on her side and teenager abused over the last 3 years haha so buying another blown up 4.0 manual RBV would be sweet. then i could swap over my lift and other mods after the swap. would have to be a 4.0 though so the lift swap and all can match up. and that way i wouldnt have to fix my front end! haha

4D55 Strong Engine

If anyone tells you these motors are not strong they havent put them to the test. I run one of these motors in a mini tractor pull tractor for the last couple of years and its a power house. We pull 6800 lbs sled that doubles the weight when the weight box is over the pan. This little motor works great
. I had the pump maxed out and the injectors shimed, took out the balance shafts and put water injection on. When pulling, I,m Running around 28 pounds of boost and anywhere from 4000 to 4800 rpm and have had no problems what so ever. Rock solid engine. Lots of parts cheap for these engines from Rockauto too.
