Hello everyone, I’ve got a 90’ Ranger standard cab 2WD, working on stuffing a 408 in it.

Previously was my grandfathers truck, passed onto my dad where it sat for about 7 years and now it’s with me. Had it for a while with the 2.3 but it dropped a bearing right after I rebuilt the trans. Decided a 351W stroked to a 408 was a better choice…. If you would like more details on the motor I can make a separate thread for anyone that wants to know.

I’m here for help along the way as well as documenting my progress for you guys.

Wowsa! You should absolutely start a build thread in the 1983-2011 mini truckin section.
Love the interior!

Welcome!

Of course we are interested in the engine build ;) I am looking at a 408 for my F150 as well since I have heard you can pretty easily get 4-450HP out of them while keeping the compression relatively low and be able to run 87 octane gas. What did your engine build look like?

She's got the L.A. tilt~

Yeah man I can do that, the rough draft for it is:

74' Block
Bored .30 over
AFR 205cc Heads
Stroker kit/fully forged rotating assembly
Fully studded
Main girdle and other accessories
Retro lifters and girdles for those as well
Vic Jr intake ported and ceramic coated
Custom Ground cam
Meziere Electric water pump
Runs good on 93 pump gas, was carbed before but I'm looking at getting a Holley Sniper
High volume oil pump, blah blah blah....

Around 10.8 - 11.1 compression... Heads were milled down a bit.
Truly don't know the hp since it hasn't been swapped..... Should be around 450, in all honesty I'm more interested in the torque on this thing.

When calculating your compression did you know that 73-76 302's and 351w's had a .023" taller deck height? I think that Ford wanted to use existing pistons and did that to reduce compression. Hopefully shaving the heads will offset some of that.

I have a couple of mid 90's roller blocks and was planning on using one of those. I also have everything from (IIRC) '94 and '95 F150's that I could do stock multiport EFI and the truck is already fuel injected buuuuuuuuuuut.... I think I am just going to do a Sniper or something instead. I would like to keep the engine bay looking clean.
